Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filter Report based on child calculation

    I am trying to print out an honor roll for our high school. The rule for condition #1 is that a student must have all grades 93 or higher.
    The parent table fields are student name and student number
    The 1 to many child table fields are student number, course and grade

    I have created a form that calculates how many grades are over 93 (Thanks Stan) and counts how many grades total are in the child for that student. For honor roll condition one, the TotalCount must equal the #of grades over 93. This works fine on a form. (see two attachments)

    Now I have to print a report that lists only the students who meet the condition of all grades over 93. I used the same calculated fields in the report:

    OVER93 = TABLEcount("Report_5_","Report_5_->Grading_Score>92 .and.Report_5_->Student_Studentnumber="+Student_Studentnumber)

    COUNTALL = count(Report_5_->Grading_Score>=93,grp->students)

    Then in the Report - Select records to print I entered:
    calc->Countall=calc->Over93

    There are about 3000 records, and the reoprt takes several minutes to come up. It also lists each student's name as many times as the student has grades.

    Anyone have an idea how to make this more efficient and only have one name showing per line?

    Thanks,

    The tablesum(), while powerful and flexible, is not particularly fast.

    For the report multiple lines, create a group around the detail section breaking on student number, place any fields you want to see in the group header (or footer) and then remove the detail section.
    There can be only one.

      Re: Filter Report based on child calculation

      I have created several calculated fields that are on my form as well as used in the reports. Unfortunately, some of the reports take 5-8 minutes to run.

      I would like to be able to flag the parent by having an operation mark yes or no in a field on the parent depending on a calculation of the child records. The problem is you can't use tablesum in an operations (I get an error message).

      I figured if I could run an operation to go through the set of students and their grades and then update a field on the parent as Yes or NO based on a calculation, I could then quickly print out a report.

      Currently I have three honor roll levels 1, 2, 3. On my report I can use my calculated field to filter each honor roll level, but again it takes a VERY long time. The hope was to somehow mark the three levels on the parent table so I could then quickly print out honor roll reports.

      Thanks for any help.

        Screen shot of current form showing three levels of honor roll. Note all the levels are calculated fields. I would like to somehow make the three honor roll levels fill in on the parent.

          Maybe your expression?

          Evaluate the tablesum() you want to use in the interactive window first.

          Code:
          ? tablesum("a_srv_lev",".t.","total_quantity_o")
          = 4889
