Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Generating Email using active script...

    Hi all, first post, new user:

    I am trying to create a button with active script that will generate an email, using Outlook, to the current record. Using the genie I have selected the email field and further wanted the contents of a specified field inserted into the body of the email. When I run the button I receive the following error:

    Script:OnPush line:22
    Email_client_external(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,par
    Variable param_to not found.

    According to the error I would guess it is suggesting that line 22 has an issue. When I view the Xbasic code generated by the genie there is only 19 lines of code total. Am I translating this error code correctly?

    The OnPush code reads:

    'Send an e- mail message using the default external e-mail clilent.
    if is_object(topparent.this) then
    form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
    else
    form_name = ""
    end if
    Dim message_type as c
    message_type = ""
    _to_var = a5_eval_expression("=All_Cont_Email",local_variables())
    param__to = _to_var
    param_subject = "Referral activities update"
    param_cc = ""
    param_bcc = ""
    message_var = a5_eval_expression("=Client_Table->Comments",local_variables())
    param_message = message_var
    attachment_list = ""
    param_attachments = alltrim(attachment_list)
    'Send the e-mail using the external e-mail client
    email_client_external(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc)

    Any help is greatly appreciated?

    param__to = _to_var

    Note that this line of code was generated in error and has 2 underscores between param and to.

    Remove the additional underscore and you'll be fine.

      Got interrupted while replying and see Al has nailed it already. Here are some steps to take if you don't how to modify the code

      The other day I was faced with the same thing. There is a bug in the action script genie that cause the code to be written with an extra underscore for that field.

      If you convert to inline xbasic you can fix it

      In the code editor put focus on the email action.
      top menu-> code ->Convert to inline xbasic -> yes
      about line 9 is this param__to = "" change it to param_to = "" one underscore.
      save changes

      Or add a new 'inline xbasic' action then view the xbasic of the email action - copy to clipboard and paste into the inline xbasic action. Then comment out the email action. That way you can easily still use the genie to make changes and copy the changed code over to the inline xbasic action again.

      Al, have you reported this. I forgot to:o

        Re: Generating Email using active script...

        Hi,
        In addition to this param_to problem I am wondering if another issue still exists within v9 that occurs at times in v8--that the actual email address that the param_to equals is converted having the @ become % and throws a resulting error. I am just curious and also wanted to throw this out there just in case someone else runs across such an occurance and now will know to check this out as well.

              This bug - where the action script inserts a double underscore in the param_to code still exists in Version 10.

              Thank goodness I found this post, so I could get my script working!

                Charlain,
                Please submit an actual bug report so that for sure Alpha is made aware of this.
