Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Conditional Text

    Mike, I tried this because if the field Ffl_Exp_Date is empty, the result is "Expired"

    Code:
    if Ffl_Exp_Date<=date() then
        Ffl_Exp_Date.value="Expired"
        Ffl_Exp_Date.visible=.T.
      else
        Ffl_Exp_Date.value=""
        Ffl_Exp_Date.object.visible=.F.
    end if
    But it does not work. Comes back invalid expression...

      Is Ffl_Exp_Date a date field or a character field? It can't be both...

        What data type is

        Ffl_Exp_Date

        if it is a date you can't store text in it.

        Ffl_Exp_Date.value="Expired"
        There can be only one.

            Re: Conditional Text

            Great... If it is not a date field, it will not use this:
            Code:
            IF(FFL_EXP_DATE<DATE(),"Expired","")
            If it is a date field, then it continually shows "Expired" if the Ffl_Exp_Date field is empty...

            So I know I am missing something, maybe the boat.....

              Kevin,

              There have been a number of suggestions, all of which work the way we would implement them ourselves.

              How about you drop a sample here? That way you will get just the right result.

              You would have this as a calculated field on the form.

              Ex_Date=IF(FFL_EXP_DATE<DATE(),"Expired",dtoc(FFL_EXP_DATE))

                  That was it Stan, but, on a record that has no date filled in, it shows "Expired". I followed the example and placed it onfetch, otherwise it is good. Maybe I will try a case function to give it 3 options, true would equal "Expired", False would equal " " and no isempty would equal " ".

                    Re: Conditional Text

                    since it is quite large, here is the customer portion I need it to work on. If field Ffl_Exp_Date is equal to or before the current date the field would pop up on the header bar in red saying "FFL Expired".

                      Hi Kevin,

                      We do want to help you but you dont make it too easy when you send an app like this with 7 different forms and you dont tell us which one you want the conditional text on.

                      I'm sorry if you think me being rude, but we dont have time to play hunt the needle.

                      Why?
                      Maybe I will try a case function to give it 3 options, true would equal "Expired", False would equal " " and no isempty would equal " ".

                      I still feel that the best way forward for you is a conditional object. It is so easy and straight forward, you dont need to get your self involved with any code, I can see that you have a way to go before you get to grips with what Alpha can do for you without you coding.
