Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    64 Bit Support

Does Alpha Five support 64 Bit Operating Systems?

If so, what versions and tweaks are nec.

    Thanks, Ed.

    Re: 64 Bit Support

    Ed,

It runs on Vista 64 bit in 32 bit mode(x86). Personally though, I have found development to be much more reliable when running on Windows XP Pro. I am not sure about using the runtime / runengine on 64 bit however.

    Regards,

    Jeff

        Jack,
You've implied that you are running Alpha on a true 64 bit system---not in any sort of compatibility mode....true? I did not think that Alpha could do this seeing as it is a 32 bit windows development program. But good to know if so.

Just to chime in with Jack.....the majority of the problems I have had is with screen update issues. The biggie being that when I am in design mode for a form and if there is an embedded browse on that form......none of the columns are visible.....it's just one big gray space.

From what I understand, Windows Server x64 can run almost all 32 bit programs with no problems. I do not have to do any specical setting or anything to get programs to run. On a side note, any driver that is need to worki with a program has to be a 64 bit version.

I had that problem only a few time. I think I would get out and then get back in solved that problem. Most of the problems I see is when editing or adding programing to a object on a form. If I get there by pressing F11 everying is perfect. I go any other way and it is hit and miss. I have gotten to learn the quirks now so I know if I move my mouse over a certain area on the screen and click the mouse the button will push even if you do not see it.

                Thanks Jack,
I wonder if this is also true for Vista or XP 64 bit OS as well....would think so. Good point regarding the drivers and would guess this could be the base issue of many who try to use a 64 bit OS.

I just purchased a laptop with Vista 64 bit. I am having the screen problem as well, but have noticed it when I open the Code Editor. I can't use the Action Scripting because of it, so I am now in a situation where I can't work on development away from the office until I get a solution.

I would appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions.

                  Thanks,
                  Joe

Select the object you want to do action scriping on, such as a field. Press F11, then select the event you want to do programing with. When I go that way everything is perfect. When I select the object and right mouse to the events is when I have the screen problems. The buttons are there, you just can not see them. When you mouse over the area the buttons will sometime appear. As I have stated before, Alpha is aware of the problem because I sent in a bug report. My guess is fix is not a simple fix, since I was the only one using x64 program 2 years ago.
