Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Maximized Main Form resizes while opening non maximized form

At present the main form has buttons to open other forms, those forms that are not maximized shows in the background a main form reduced. after closing the the called form and return, the main forms returns to maximized state.

Is there a way to keep the main form or Main Menu form from minimizing while opening a non maximized form?

I see we can anchor buttons or other objects. Can you anchor a form?

You can use the "fill","fill" option in a form load on your main menu. It will fill the A5 container, but not be maximized. Your other forms can open "windowed" w/o affecting the main form.

Re: Maximized Main Form resizes while opening non maximized form

I did add the topparent.maximize() to the event onactivate.
It does not prevent the main form from reducing its status of maximized when another non maximized form is open. Let me clear this out. it does not closes the main form, just reduces it to about 90% and add the top blue header of a non maximized form.

Peter I did Add the fill option, but it did the same.

In the form properties I uncheck in the windows tab the option to minimize and That did it, but it keeps the open non maximized forms behind. So I had to check it back.

Is there an option to send to back like is done with objects?

Check out z-order. I've never used it, but it may be in A.S.

Neat the use of the AZ form position. You can control the position, but the sending form in this case the main form is reduced.

I have tried with a few other forms. It seem that Alpha as it opens a form some how must place the sending form in a window and not keep the maximized state.

Just to make sure that I not doing something wrong, can any one replicate this?

            Thanks for the response.

              MikeData,

See if the attached sample does what you are trying to achieve...

Re: Maximized Main Form resizes while opening non maximized form

Thanks for thinking about. I did see the zip file and is not the same situation. The main form you are using works correctly as it stays open all the time.
That form start as a window.
Perhaps it may be my lack of alpha naming or new at the lingo in alpha.
I was referring as maximixed a form with no blue border on top.
Pete see the form I did zip. It is a modification of yours.
Notice that the main form is fully maximized and form A & B were postion differently, otherwise will open max..
I did add an action to the main form to keep it maximized upon return from the forms.
But notice the problem I am experiencing upon opening the main form fully maximized. It reduces its size while form A or B is open.
Hope you can see it and it would be great to find the way to keep the main form maximized while A or B are open.

Re: Maximized Main Form resizes while opening non maximized form

Ok, I see. But you can't do that. This is a Window's convention (never mind that certain programs such as Quicken CAN do this ~ whatever).

But, you can do this if you open Form's A & B as dialogs (or an xdialog, of course). Then the main form can be maxed...

                  Edit:
                  See attached...

At least I get your confirmation that is windows and not me missing an step.
I do not know yet if I will use you approach of fill window vs maximized.
I have to see which one will fit better.
                    Many thanks.

Success come with a price. When using the opening form as a dialogue, you loose the icons of the menu/toolbar. In other words the form opened have no navigation or any other icon. This may not be so bad. Some forms I will have to sacrifice the option and open them regularly. Others I can add predefined icons and create menus/toolbar as needed in the form.
