Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Needing an Alpha Developer on a fee basis

    Calling ALL developers.

I am new to Alpha, but I have 15+ years experience designing the current database that is at the core of our company. My data structure has been migrated to Alpha and appears to be very close to what I need. I am very pleased with the way it has come together and the speed at which I have been able to create my database in Alpha.
However, now that I am getting close to doing some testing of the system I need to attach appropriate navigation, edit and entry controls/buttons, etc. This is where I am having trouble.

I am not a programmer. I need to identify someone that can provide me with support assistance to answer what will likely be fundamental questions about Alpha controls and design tools. I just need some guidance. Someone to answer these types of questions. The time I have spent hunting around the Alpha help files to find my answers has simply not been productive. I keep running down bunny trails again and again.

My company is a large commercial real estate company in San Antonio, Texas. I am very close. I just need this support.
If you are interested in providing some telephone tech support, please get back to me with your fee structure and availability to answer these questions.

Once I have completed these steps I will begin creating my reports, form letters, etc., which will likely require additional service.

    My email is [email protected]

    Thank you for your consideration.

This is the right place to get the answers handled. I have built a custom database with Alpha 5v9 with NO experiance with databases at all. I currently manage over 400,000 records. I built the database for foreclosure mitigation. Works fairly well and very flexible. 1 server 20 workstations using alpha runtime.

      Todd,

I'm surprised not to see more replies. Let us know if you found someone. (Don't necessarily need the name - just want to know you're getting the help you need.) I'm sure there are people who can help you if you haven't found anyone yet. Perhaps the lack of replies has to do with the time of year. I do this kind of help sometimes but right now I'm pretty busy.

Of course, as Steve said, you can probably get many answers right here on this board. However, having someone on the phone to discuss it with is often more efficient.

        Cal,
He did find someone. I live pretty close and offered my services. He said he had found someone with good experience to help.

Sorry I had not gotten back to everyone. I really appreciate your support and collegial spirit. Keith Hubert and I hit it off very well. He is in London, which is not optimal, but he truly understood my needs and so rather than engage a number of different people I am goign to see if he can fullfill my needs. Thanks again.
