Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

tab object Display tab2 instead of tab1 when open

Main Form has a TAB object with 3 tabs.
Tab1 is a browser. Tab2 has some lookup fields. Tab3 have some simple fields.
IF I open the form from the control panel, it opens the form displaying tab1(browser) open. Just fine.
If I open the form from a button in a main menu form, it opens displaying tab2first. No so good.
The button in the main form is set to open this form in entry mode. If its set to "no further parameters", it opens fine.
The tab order has been set 1, 2, and so on, so the fields in the tab2 are after fields in tab1.
I have exchanged the fields with the browser and it makes no difference.
Is there any other factor or command needed to open correctly?

    Form based on a set?

Browse object based on a child table?

You're not trying to enter children before the related parent has been entered are you?

Yes, main form is over a set.
The browse is from a child form in the set.
Fields in tab2 are from the main form.
      Could that be the reason?

As if I open from control panel it opens to tab1 if Request is to enter as "Blank for data entry" goes to tab2 because tab2 has fields from the main form and tab1 has a browse of child form.

Is there a way to force the focus to tab1 on entry data mode?

You really don't want to enter child table records when there is no parent table record. Enter the parent table record first.

I believe the entry of records in the child, can not be done because the information is based in some fields that are auto generated the moment the form is opened. So it is impossible to enter child record ahead of the main form. Do you think there is a way to force the focus to tab1?

Sorry, can't say. Never mixed fields from two tables in a single tab object before. Personally, I think it's mistake, but your mileage may vary.

Other than the focus issue, it seems to be OK.
What should I be looking out, that could give me problems down the road?

Mike, others may disagree. For me the controlling princple is keep it simple. Arrange the flow of data inputs so that the user works on one thing at a time. One record at a time. One table at a time. Providing an interface that permits them to jump willy nilly between tables while entering data makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I imagine this happening at 6 workstations all firing pieces of records at multiple tables. Seems like a bad design to me. Better to work on one thing at a time, and not let the design permit the users to jump "out of sequence" whenever it suits them.

You are correct, is dangerous to let users run wild. In this case is just no more than an invoice header and a itemsold format. The situation as it stand now, the user will have to click the tab back to tab1. Not a big deal. The flow is straight. entering the data for the header and entering data for the child form.
In an invoice you enter data same way.
The header, the itemsSold and if needed more data in the button of the main form, like payments or notes.
I will see if there is a way to separate the tabs not having data from the main and child tables.
