Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing alternate rows in color

I have search the forum for this topic and the closest thread are "green lines report" and "background color row". some how I can not see how to apply in my report.
The choices will be white and grey.
Is there a simple way to display the background of the rows in the detail section alternating between grey and white?
    Please Help.

You'll have to define what constitutes "a simple way".

You need a conditional object with two conditions.

Mod(mrecno(),2) will control even numbered rows and mod(mrecno(),1) will apply to odd numbered rows. Place a frame object in each "pane" of the conditional object. The properties of each will have no border, no shadow. One of the frames will have a solid gray fill style, the other transparent (so the white of the paper it is printed on appears). Place the same fields in each pane of the conditional in the same relative position.
    There can be only one.

Thanks for the response, I did setup as instructed in the alphasport db in the DETAIL section the conditional object. When I apply the Mod(mrecno(),2) and or the Mod(mrecno(),1), the records will not show.
Is there more than just create a condition and place the 2 frames in each pane?
      Attached is a picture.

        My bad (and incomplete).

Mod(mrecno(),2) = 0 will control even numbered rows and mod(mrecno(),2) = 1 will apply to odd numbered rows.

When I worked with it this morning I had better results using a blank text box with the background set to 50% grey. The frame object didn't work as well but I might have had it mis-positioned.

Hey Guys... I'm still new to A5 and trying to learn my way around by reading all your great posts and then trying the various techniques myself. For this one do I add one conditional object and one or two text boxes? I'm not quite sure... I've tried it with one conditional object and one text box but I get a blank line then a grey line with data. Could I trouble you for a little bit more detail? Thanks. David

Re: Printing alternate rows in color

              Welcome.

You place one conditional object in the detail section. You edit the properties of said object and create two conditions.

Mod(mrecno(),2) = 0 even numbered rows will show this "pane" of the object

Mod(mrecno(),2) = 1 odd numbered rows will show this "pane" of the object

You place the empty text object in either of the panes as desired. Changing panes is accomplished by right clicking on the object and choosing it. You then place the fields you want on the report in both of the panes in the same relative positions.
              There can be only one.

Re: Printing alternate rows in color

Got it working... excellent... thank you so much. What I found is that you have to be really careful and not having the conditional object too small - actually touching, or same size, as the text box. If you do, all my row come out the same colour. Expanding the Cond object a bit taller than the objects inside it makes it work.

And... I got it... I'm not thinking visually enough... and didn't understand the conditional object... so cool... adding conditions lets you see each and select each condition... nice tool.

                Thanks,

                David

All sorts of possibilities. Hilight a line in a report based on the value in a field, etc.

I am glad you got it. I was getting some pictures ready to demonstrate how simple it is. (of course, thanks for the help from Stan Mathews, who makes it easy).
Here are some basic steps. This may help future new users.

Amazing possibilites... as soon as I understood that you get a visual representation of each condition then anything is possible. Thanks so much for the pictures... this will really help others as well. David

                        Hi Stan,
Please tell me how you got the Report to show the background color differently for the record. I've been using the color equasion for the fields, and the text color changes ok but the background color is white no matter what I specify when printing the report.

The user wants the background row color on the report to change based on the value of the field req_status.

It looks right in the form's browse window (see screenshot). Now they want the report to have the same color coding.

                        Color equasion for the fields:
                        case(upper(req_status)="ACCEPTED".and.cyear(Completion_Date)="","black on Light Yellow",upper(req_status)="ACCEPTED".and.cyear(Completion_Date)<>"","black on Lime",upper(req_status)="OPEN".and.cyear(Completion_Date)="".AND.Assigned_To="","black on #192,205,246",Req_Status="REJECTED","black on Red",.T.,"black on white")

                        Thanks!

Re: Printing alternate rows in color

Not sure where you are having trouble.

Do you know how to create the conditional object? Do you know how to add conditions (panes) once the object is created. Do you understand selecting each pane and placing objects on them which you want printed if the condition is true. The background color for the row is accomplished by creating a text object with no message and setting the background color for that text object. It is then placed on a pane that displays under certain conditions.

The database in mysports.aip is AlphaSports with a modification to the OrderReport as shown in the attached pdf.

Thanks Stan. I'll look at your examples and see if I can figure it out. I do not know how to create conditional objects.
