Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How do I clear query from memory

I use a query to search for a specific date for payments received and view the report which always works fine, but then I have a script that searches for payments made between certain dates like betewwn the 1st-20th and totals them on a report, which works great if i run it first after the program is opened. If I run the query for a specific date first or second, the script always will return the same value, it will not add totals for the date range asked, it always returns the same value as the query.

Might we be permitted to see said script so we could suggest modifications?

There are instances where CTRL-W (show all) might solve your problem.
    There can be only one.

        Greg,

That portion of the process displays an xdialog asking for two dates. Something else takes those two dates and performs the query.

Run your query as usual, then hold down the control key and type w. see what happens.

Another option is to use CTRL and I, select the query and delete it, should be bottom of the list.
        There can be only one.

          Stan,
I don't see either of these (Ctrl-I and Ctrl-W) listed in the shortcut keys list. They do nothing on my system. Are these your personal creations, possibly?

This is the query I run first and the the other script will always display this value.

            DATEPD=VAR->ASKD_ENTER_DATE_

then I try to run the script of between dates and get the answer of the above query

This is the script Stan was refering to. It makes a difference what function is used to generate the query,(ie. base query vs others). Try the following and see if this works for you:
              Code:
              topparent:tables:[COLOR="Red"]PARENTTABLENAME[/COLOR].filter_expression = ".t."
              topparent:tables:[COLOR="red"]PARENTTABLENAME[/COLOR].order_expression = ""
              topparent:tables:[COLOR="red"]PARENTTABLENAME[/COLOR].query()

If you float your mouse cursor over the filter or show all menu icons you will see these shortcuts appear....also show them in the top menu-->Query area.

                  Mike,
I was referring to not seeing them listed in the documentations.

I have to be honest with you, although i am certain what you wrote would give me those items... I don't really have the slightest clue how to achieve what you outlined.

It's bed time here... goodnight gentlepeople.

                    Hi Mike,
I could not find these shortcuts in the documentation either. Thinking about it, I do remember where I found out about them---They were mentioned in Susan Bush's Alpha Made Easy v5 tutorial I used when first learning Alpha.

Another shortcut mentioned in her tutorial is Ctrl+S which, when in design mode, will save changes.

Also, here is a screenshot of what I was trying to refer to in my prior post regarding where to find the shortcuts mentioned here. Ctrl+S is seen when under the Main menu listing "File" when in design mode.
