Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Run Time Users can't print Records

I created a form on my Alpha program with permissions given to run time users to access and edit the forms. When I log in on my computer under one of the run time user log ins I am able to print the record. However, when the run time users try to print the records from their computers the print option is not available. It is as if the print option is not even enabled for the run time users.

Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem

    Debbie,

Welcome to the Alpha Five message board.

Unfortunately, for me at least you have not given quite enough information. Presumably your Runtime is a Runtime Plus, which would allow you to let users edit some forms and reports. I have a bit of experience with Runtime Plus but not much.

On your machine, if you are talking about Windows network logon, unless you have done something special, who logs on won't make any difference as to the Alpha Five functionality available on that machine. Of course if you have both the full version and the Runtime installed on your machine and you run the Runtime, that would make a difference and could matter to what you are experiencing.

Next, you do not say whether the other users are working with a Shadow database as opposed to the master DB. If you or they make a change to the master DB (say with a print button) the Shadow won't have it until the Shadow is updated. Indeed, seems to me lots problems may arise if Runtime Plus users tray to design a form while in a Shadow DB--at best the Shadow would still need to be updated, at worst they design a form that is only in their Shadow and will never be in the master. Guess I should experiment with this a bit for future reference.

Finally, for me at least, you need to specify in more detail what you mean by the "print option" whereby "I am able to print the records" while others are not. Are you talking about a button, something on a menu or toolbar or what?

Re: Run Time Users can't print Records

      Hi Ray:

I am not a tech so let me back up.

The way our IT described it to me is like this. The full version database is installed on our server. The full version program is installed on my PC and the owners PC. The run time version (3 users) is installed on each of their PCs.

I created the form on my PC and gave permissions to the 3 users to access the form and create records using the form. So far so good. The problem came up when they tried to print a record from their PC.

I have the 3 users set up in security as a user group called "nurses" with 1 password. When I log in as "nurses" with their password on my computer I can print the record. When they use the exact same user name and password but on their computer they cannot print the form. The select the current record option and then print that record is not available to them.

      Does that help?

      Deb

Re: Run Time Users can't print Records

Yes! So we are not talking about Runtime Plus--just making changes on a form they have access to and printing the current record. It also sounds a Shadow DB is not part of the problem (could be but probably not). Next question, are you using the latest patch for v9? If not which are you using?

I have one Db that uses the built-in security and logon. I'll play with that a bit and get back with the result later today.

I have not been able to replicate what you describe. It still would be helpful to know exactly what the user clicks to attempt printing the current record. Is the Print option visible but grayed out? And does the form have custom Menus or Toolbars?
