Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Browser return more data than asked

Browser return more data than asked. In this app. I have a form with a lookup field to open a browser with criteria and when the browser opens, list all the items related and then continues with the rest of the records. Same as in find by form.

Is there a setting I am missing?
How can I get only the records I want?

It also happens in find by form. It returns the correct records and as long you keep pressing the navigation arrows continues with the rest of records in the table. Unless you ask for the next record in the tool bar, then stops at the end of the requested records.

Here is sample of the problem.
Clicking group and class creates a group-class that fill the linking field.
then the grplinktxt (filled by event in groupm and class) is used to select the browser items.

You will see that the browser shows more than the related wanted.

I tried both ways using a form over a table and over a set. Same results.

Sorry. Took a look. Can't follow your directions. Don't know where to begin. Don't find the field names you mention. What am I missing?

        Later...
Mike I'm still lost, but it seems you are using table fields to collect filter criteria from the user. You should re-think this approach. The fields in your forms are bound to the tables. When you change a field in order to specify a filter you are actually also changing the data in your tables. You should not be using table fields to specify filtering criteria.

Is hard to explain in short sometimes. I appreciate the efforts.
          Thanks.
Perhaps the following 2 picture will explain better.

The lookup field does not show, or trudger wanted data only, but shows all the records. It does however place the wanted records first. not so bad.
The bigger problems is that if the user picks a combination with no records, it displays all records in the browse.

Please see the process in the pictures attached.

How to control the output of the browser?

Why are you using table fields to specify the desired filter criteria for the browse object? Do you understand that when a table field value is changed the actual field value for that item is changed in the table?

Are you referring to the Tpictures table? That is created when the pictures are loade.
If you referr to the tstorage table that is the one for user to work the deatils of the picture, them that could be optional.
That concept falls under "I always did that way".
I guest I could use a variable. At some point I have to store that information.
              Any suggestions?
By changing the input fields to variables, how would that change the result of the lookup retrieving more records that needed?
              can you elaborate on this?

Nope. Have run out of time. Still don't understand what you're doing or why. Maybe somebody more intuitive than me can help.

                  Try this.
                  There can be only one.

                    Mike,

                    Is this what you want?

It was achieved by entering the filter as in the picture.

                      Stan,
                      Instead of
                      Code:
                      dim global chosen as c
                      chosen = word(pictgrp.text,1,"-")
I think Mike would want this
                      Code:
                      dim global chosen as c

                      chosen =pictgrp.text
This gives only the Good Furniture for example and nothing else.....But then all a matter of interpretation really and he can decide.
                      Mike

Thanks to all, The obstacle has been cleared. I used the filter mentioned by Lance. It works GREAT! Using xbasic still a hot substance for me. I am using it, only when advice by you guys or from sample copies.
I Have some apps to rush out. In between I have been peeking at the xbasic code lessons in the manual. They are challenging.
I see now how to filter groups, I have seen it in some other places, but I did not know how to applied it here. In the manual I look for -> reference and even though is used in many places, I did not find e reference for it. Under groups there are many reference, but they are not clear.
Thanks for clearing this problem for me.
