Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Entering Date Field

I have a date field that I am having trouble with. When the form gets to the field I have it pop up with the calendar, but when you click on a date it won't enter it into the field. It just stays blank. If you do this in the change mode the calendar saves the selected date in the field. Any ideas?

In the look up field rules for the date field, do you have the linking field fill the date field?

I did not, so I changed the setting in that field rule to use a look up table. There is no actual table to look up so I left that blank. I used the system date as the linking field. It works except that it puts an arrow for a drop down box which if clicked produces an error because there is no look up table. Obviously I do not have this set up right. What am I doing wrong?

You have me so turned around and confused that I'm not sure that we are working with the same program.

Can you please post an example of what you are doing and explain what you are trying to do?

          Chris,
We need to know where you are setting this date field to use the calendar popup--is it on a form's field that you chose calendar as the field type....in a browse field that has a button or calendar display, in the field rules??

.....We need the context of your problem. Are you tabbing through the fields to get to the date/calendar field or using the mouse or using script....??

The answers to these questions and a sample as Al asked for will not only expedite a solution for you but also make the solution more specific to your situation.

            Re: Entering Date Field

Simply, I am trying to have a date field open a calendar upon entering the field and fill the field with the date selected. Right now when you enter a new record it won't accept the date clicked. It leaves the field blank.

              Chris,

I can't see that happening from here (works here), so unless you can present us with a simple form that this is happening, I cannot fathom how to assist. You could even maybe show a video and that may do it---but what you are having problems with is a basic functionality that works and I have not heard of any problems with using it....not saying there isn't BTW--just cannot see it from here..... :)

Unless there is something the matter with your set design??? Is this form based upon a set by any chance??

                Hi Chris,

What do you get when you enter the date field in AlphsSports Invoice?
                Regards

                  Re: Entering Date Field

Sorry for the confusion. I now have it set at the most simple form, there is no auto pop up. It is just a standard date field. The calendar button is next to the field on the form automatically upon entering that field. I am using the enter button to get to that field.

This format is all a little new to me as I have been using the DOS Alpha4 version for over 10 years.

The form is based on a set.

Here is something strange. I just tried it form my laptop and it works fine. When I run it on my desktop where the database is stored it continues to have the problem I stated.

When I try the Alpha Sports sample it does the same thing! It works on the laptop but not the desktop.

                      Re: Entering Date Field

The calendar is, in essence, a lookup table and it has to be defined somewhere so that you can select the date.
I'd love to see a copy of your table with the form so I can understand what calendar you're talking about. You could provide a dummy table.

Indicates a difference between two environments so what have you checked? Are you using the same builds of Alpha? Same OS ....same OS with the same OS builds?? Have you rebooted the problem computer? Maybe even just reinstalling the same patch/build that the laptop is on?

There are other things but these are some to check out.

Also, it sounds like you are networked--could be a problem there as well.
