Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

    I have created a form with an event on push that opens another form and selects records based on a filter expression. I would also like to add options for data entry clerks to select from. For example: When the button is pushed, it will select the appropriate form and run the query I set up.

    When I added another action, run a saved query prompting for saved query name at run-time it worked BUT showed all saved queries. I do not want all the queries to show is it possible to only show selected queries.

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

    Yes you can, not with action scripting.

    The code behind the action you created is

    topparent.RUN_SAVED_QUERY("")

    If you do some coding using

    Operation_List as C = :A5.QUERY_ENUM( 2 )

    and filter out the ones you don't want to show and then present the results to the user to select, you can then use the line

    topparent.RUN_SAVED_QUERY("selected query")

    Suppose you have your queries named such that you want the users to be able to select only those that begin with the letter z. Create a button with the code....

    Code:
    op_list = a5.Query_Enum(2)
    new_list = ""
    for each foo in op_list
    	if left(foo.value,1) = "z" 'not case sensitive
    		new_list  = new_list+ foo.value + crlf()
    	end if
    next
    rslt = ui_get_radio2("Queries",word(new_list,1,crlf()),new_list)

    topparent.RUN_SAVED_QUERY(rslt)

      Re: Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

      I'm confused. If I only wanted to show the following queries:

      MBS
      IHA
      SENRS

      How would I do this using the Operation_List - I'm thinking you would want me to create a list with only the above queries selected but I'm just not sure how to go about this.

      Thank you.

        Re: Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

        Is it vitally important that they be named

        MBS
        IHA
        SENRS

        could they be named

        zMBS
        zIHA
        zSENRS

        ???

        If you know what queries you want to present and don't mind editing the button when you want to add/change the list

        Code:
        new_list = "MBS"+crlf()+"IHA"+crlf()+"SENRS"+crlf()
        rslt = ui_get_radio2("Queries",word(new_list,1,crlf()),new_list)

        topparent.RUN_SAVED_QUERY(rslt)

          Another idea would be to use the prompt using radio buttons... you present the choices you want; user selects one; your script can see which was picked and can then run the query...

            Re: Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

            Hi Stan, I used the syntax:
            new_list = "MBS"+crlf()+"IHA"+crlf()+"SENRS"+crlf()
            rslt = ui_get_radio2("Queries",word(new_list,1,crlf()),new_list)

            topparent.RUN_SAVED_QUERY(rslt)

            Everything works fine - it shows the list I want on the form I want but when I select from the list and hit OK, it does not run the search.

              Did your keep your action script to open the other form?

              You could do it this way.

              Code:
              frm = form.View("Customer Information") 'change to your actual form name
              new_list = "MBS"+crlf()+"IHA"+crlf()+"SENRS"+crlf()
              rslt = ui_get_radio2("Queries",word(new_list,1,crlf()),new_list)
              frm.RUN_SAVED_QUERY(rslt)
              There can be only one.

                Re: Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

                I'm just not very good with some of this stuff - I have decided to zip the file and see if you can figure out what I am doing wrong.

                In the Ambassadors Form - using the P2 button, I would like it to open the P2_form - run the **P2_To Call query. Once this is done the data entry clerk should see the P2_form and only the selected records from the **P2_To Call query. This is where I would like them to be able to run another query (selected queries - MBS, IHA, SENRS) to get the records they are responsible for. Hope this helps!

                  I don't have anything but v5 at home but I think this is what you want. There is a button on the p2_script form to run the further queries.

                    Thanks Stan - once I click on the button (P2_Script) it pops up with a debugger script - I close this and then I get the queries to run (IHA, MBS, SENRS). Is there any way to set it up that when I push the "queries" button only the queries to run show up - not the debugger script.

                      Didn't mean to leave that in.

                      Right click on the button, choose Events, Onpush, delete the line that says debug(1), save and close.

                        Re: Show Selected Queries at Run-Time

                        I noticed that when the P2_Script is already open then the Query button will open another instance of it....so one cure would be to check for the existance of the P2_Script first and if it exists, simply activate it....unless I am missing something here....

                        Code:
                        if is_object("P2_Script") then
                            P2_Script.activate()
                          else
                            form.View("P2_Script")
                        end if

                        new_list = "MBS"+crlf()+"IHA"+crlf()+"SENRS"+crlf()
                        rslt = ui_get_radio2("Queries",word(new_list,1,crlf()),new_list)
                        P2_Script.RUN_SAVED_QUERY(rslt)
