Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF Report printer error

    I'm trying to print a PDF report using a local installation of Alpha 5 v9. I've set up a dialog component adding it to an .a5w page as directed by the Total Web Apps series of videos.

    My after validate form event is coded as follows using the print genie:

    dim filter as c
    dim order as c
    Filter = ".T."
    Order = ""
    Dim filename as c
    filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
    filename = report.saveas("Member_Roster_wn@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\member_wn.ddd","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)
    if file.exists(filename)
    currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
    end if

    I get the following error when previewing in my web browser locally -->

    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
    'Alpha Five Printer' (for creating PDF, RTF and HTML output) is not installed. Re-install Alpha Five

    Being a newbie at this stuff, getting errors makes it difficult to learn and progress with this software. I've searched the forums and assume its an issue with not having the built-in Alpha Print driver (perhaps).

    Forums I've looked at:

    My machine does have a networked version of Alpha 4 v8 though installed elsewhere on my system. Alpha 4 v8 uses Windows Agent to print to a standalone printer and elsewhere..... My Windows XP system also has printers installed as shown below:

    The second form post above seemed to state to not have any other PDF-type printers installed on your system, yet we need to have these functioning for other uses to the best of my knowledge. I also could not locate the oemsetup.inf file in my installation but did find a amyuni.inf however under my root of C:\Alpha5 v9\a5v9 .... Following the procedure for this amyuni.inf only gave me an error message -40 ifI recall. A quick glance in this folder also reveals a InstallAmyuniPrinters.exe that might fix everything. Guess I'm reluctant to try installing this .exe file unless it will solve my problem.

    Any help would be appreciated :)

      Re: PDF Report printer error

      wow,thanks for the quick reply. Still getting an error which seems to come from it not being activated. I've republished my Dialog and .a5w pages & cleared the browser cache as well. I'm getting the same error as above. Clicking the Printer Preferences under Properties gives me this error:

      Activation Error Printer not activated, error code -41

      Seeing as this driver came with the Alpha software package is it safe to assume that it takes the same activation code or no? The About.. tab under printer properties give me the Licensed to: and Activation code: slots

      Sorry for questioning what might seem obvious.... I just can't see the point in paying for a code if it somehow comes with Alpha's software

        Re: PDF Report printer error

        Seems like this solved it, along with opening a report made within Alpha and choosing Save in Acrobat.pdf format. This forced Alpha to install the print drivers saying it wasn't already done (?)... Regardless, this may have helped fix the issue....since it now is able to print the PDF from the web browser thru the .a5w page.

        Looks like the activation code is not needed as shown in this post described below:
