Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Code Editor screen size

I am on v9 build 2005 3252 using XP sp2 with screen resolution 1280 x 800. I have been frustrated with the screen size of the code editor which presents now with portions off screen and with a bunch of vertical scroll bars (see attached picture). I know that I can reduce the window size or maximize, but I don't want to develop in maximized screens and I'm now constanty maximizing and window restoring, which I don't like. This used to not happen.

Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone know of a patch I can go back to so I don't have this. Thanks.

I have noticed the same thing, but don't have a solution. At least you can maximize to get rid of the scroll bars and see the entire screen. I've got a better one. Check out the screen for defining new variables. It completey overlaps the display on the top and bottom and its window has no facilities for adjusting size or for scrolling. In order to access the buttons on the bottom the entire window must be physically repositioned. I suggest you submit yours as a bug, as will I for mine.

I'm not sure what you are saying or the sequence you are doing. My screen is 1280 x 1024 and it seems to work fine. Is A5 maximized or not? Is there some other window (such as a layout design) that you invoke the code editor? Try staring with a clean A5 window with just a Control Panel in "restore" size and then open up the interactive window. Does it still happen? Anything else you can describe?

There are lot's of Alpha 5 menu's that are remember their size or position and have the ability to be off screen (most typically when you change screen resolution size between invokations.

I created for my use a variety of UI replacement functions that add capability to Alpha's built in functions. One thing they do when opening is to check the position and size, and optionally, bring it back on screen (either Windows or Alpha's screen depending upon type). Almost all of my usages of UI are sizeable and positionable, as I never want to constrain the user.

Thanks for the reply. I also just got a reply from Selwyn echoing your comments. Selwyn is one attentive guy. He also resonded that they have taken care of the button bitmap/icon issue I reported. That's some fast response.

Yes, it appears that the problem was related to form size persisitence. I didn't detect that the window was vertically resizeable because its vertical size as displayed was too large to permit relocating the window postition in order to be able to resize it. Got it fixed now.

            Re: Code Editor screen size

What I am noticing in build 2005 is that for form event and for global scripts is that when the control panel is in "restored" size that the code editor window grows slightly in width and height each time it is opened. Top left corner stays in same place.

This means that after several opens/closes the window is larger than the screen and must be scrolled or resized.

I have seen this behavior for a while, but when this thread first came out it seems that I checked, and must have not been getting the scrolling. It happens now even after restarting A5, but I have not tested after a reboot. (No time right now.)

            Bill.
