Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Only Parents with Children, Please

Attached is a ZIP that contains a SET that I am having trouble with. If you run the Roster Select Form, you will see how it works. Then, edit the SET to only include Activities which have related Sessions. You will notice that the Roster Select Form (and the default Form for that matter) now just hang.

I want/need only parents with children, to show up on the Roster Select Form. Any thoughts, ideas, etc... would be greatly appreciated.

It hangs in v8 also. I would file a bug report. A possible work around might be to add a numeric field to the Activity table. With each additional child record, increment the value of the field. You might be able to use a field rule posting operation, if you also create a dummy filed in the child with a default value of 1 (otherwise use xbasic). The filter the set definition on the approriate table num>0

      Thanks Peter,

I never like thinking I need to bother Alpha, in that their plate is as full as everyone's else... but it looks like a bug to us also. For now, your suggestion seems like a good work around... I'll report back.

[EDIT: I submitted this as a Bug Report]

Michael, have you tried "filtering" the Activities table in your set design? I wonder if this expression:
        Code:
        EXIST(REC_ID,"sessions","Act_Rec_Id") = .T.
would get you where you need to go if applied to the link between the Activity_groups table and the Activities table? -- tom

          Tom,

Just tried it... it helps, at the Sessions level. But, when I try to continue that method up the SET (i.e. Activity_Groups) with:

          EXIST(REC_ID,"activities","Agp_Rec_Id") = .T.

it doesn't seem to work at that level. Very werid, or... what did I miss?

Seems to work for me. If I add an Activity_group record for the Golf program, BUT no Activities records, the Activity_group is suppressed by the filter. You do want to suppress Activity_group records if there are no linked Activities, right?

Attached is a backup which demonstrates what I am talking about.

If you run the Roster Select Form... you will notice that Activities with no Sessions DO NOT show up, which is what we want/expect.

But, Activity Groups with no Activities DO show up, which is not what we want/expect.

Mike, I see the problem, too. My testing here wasn't sufficient. If the only activity_group has no activities, then the filter suppresses the activity_group. But not if there are other activity_groups that have activities. Don't see an easy fix.

Thanks for confirming that it's not just us. Sewlyn replied to the Bug Report, I guess/assume they think it's a nesting problem... too deep a nest, something they had never tried/tested.

Hopefully (this is me speaking not them)... they will figure something out soon. The example I posted is only a subset of the data, for this client, so it's bit much to sift through manually like they have to for the time being.

I received an email from Selwyn around 1PM today... indicating that they had "fixed" the problem and that the fix would be in the next patch.

                    Thanks to everyone involved.
