Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Undestanding the Variable Value

    Hello
    I have a problem to understanding about the Variable.
    I want to get a field value from other table. It is one to many set.

    When I wrote as
    dim shared vWrkschId as c
    vWrkschid = parentform:wrksch_id.value
    I could not get the value of Wrksch_id.

    I used the ActionScript and copied to Code Editor
    IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->varC_result='ok'") THEN
    'Get 'Value' property of 'Worksch_id' in Form 'WrkSch_Emp' .
    DIM SHARED vWrkschid AS c
    vWrkschid = parentform:Worksch_id.value
    END IF
    Then, It works.

    Can anyone explain it simply?
    Where is the Help for this
    Why the first script has an error and 2nd script does not

        John,

        Context is everything in such a script. It appears your screenshot is of a script saved on the code tab of the control panel. This is run from one of the buttons on the form where the error is shown? (action script to play the workschedule_emp_checkbx script?)

        You say the action script works? That action is the event code for the onpush event of a button on the same form?

        As onpush event code, the meaning of parentform is clear. It refers to the parentform of the button. As a freestanding script, the meaning of parentform is not as clear, no matter where it is run.

        Instad of a saved script, copy the code and place it in an inline xbasic action script element and see what happens. You could also try naming the form explicitly in the saved script something like

        vWrkschid = Employee_Assignment:wrksch_id.value
        There can be only one.

          The field names are different. Is this intentional?

          When I wrote as
          dim shared vWrkschId as c
          vWrkschid = parentform:wrksch_id.value
          I could not get the value of Wrksch_id.

          IF a5_eval_expression("=Var->varC_result='ok'") THEN
          'Get 'Value' property of 'Worksch_id' in Form 'WrkSch_Emp' .
          DIM SHARED vWrkschid AS c
          vWrkschid = parentform:Worksch_id.value
          END IF

              Les and Stan
              Thank you for your attention. I recognized that used different name.
              I checked the property of both, parent and child, field name.
              I have the object name as WorkSch_id and Field name as WrkSch_id on Parent table and object and field name as Wrksch_id on child table.

              The field name is "Wrksch_id" on the Parent and child tables(structure view).

              Generally, Should I use a OBJECT name?
              I think I should use the field name.

                Re: Undestanding the Variable Value

                If you are referring to something you see on a form, you must use the object name to reference it. That is why you use

                parentform:wrksch_id.value

                ... the value of the object on the form.

                If you need to reference the table field behind the form object or a table field not on the form

                parentform:Tables:tablename.fieldname

                and don't use the .value.
