On my suggestion, my co is thinking of buying Alpha 5v9, but 1st I need to see if it will do something we need; my case for Alpha at work may rest on this. [My own personal copy of Alpha is A5V6, so I don't know yet about new capabilities.]
We need to copy some Word documents into a Letter or Report that would be printed out for one client at a time to put into their printed file folder. (This is a medical-office/lab type of application.) One of the important files in Word has a graphical image in it (originally a JPG), combined with other graphics that have been added in order to point to certain parts of the image. The latter were added by me using WordDraw. I know how to Group these images, but A5V6 will not import any image except a bitmap. If I convert this to a bitmap, the image degradation is so severe it cannot be used. I'm hoping A5v9 can do something with this.
I would like to place these files, including the one with the graphics, into a layout. I would then add some fields, like Name, ID Number, etc., to come from their record. Then it should all print out together for the person's hardcopy file. We are required by regulatory agencies to print all this, and beside that, we MUST have the graphic on that page so it can be marked by the examining physician. (All this regulation is, in the long run, necessary to protect the health of the public in general.)
Note: Every page printed MUST BE IDENTICAL to each original Word document (except for the Name, ID#, date, etc.). So, it's not that I am above retyping everything; it's that I can't do it all over and expect it to match the original docs without a hairline of difference, especially the pages with the graphics.
Any advice on how a Word doc with graphics can be input into an A5v9 layout will be treasured! If you know it's impossible, please tell me what (if any) method could be used to achieve the desired output. PLEASE BE SPECIFIC, as I've never done anything like this before. But I'd be so excited to "have Alpha in the house" at work. It could be used for many incidental purposes; I just have to convince my boss that it can help our operations.
Thanks ever so much,
Caely
