Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Error Message when Duplicating a Report

When i right click on a certain Report icon i have...and try to Duplicate it, i get the following Error Message: "Invalid Structured Store Image".

Couldn't find what that is under Error in Help file (might have overlooked it), but there is no bitmap or image i know of in the Report. Any idea what this means? Thanks

The error message means that the report is corrupted. The definition of the report is invalid.

You can restore a backup (you do backup frequently, don't you) or you can start over again.

What happens if you try to open the original report in design mode and save as a different name?
    There can be only one.

Re: Error Message when Duplicating a Report

      Stan,

When i open the Report , save it under different name....all seems to work well. However, if i then try and Duplicate the Newly "saved as" Report , the little box that comes up to Rename it comes up and i can enter a new name...but...the 'OK" button to click on to save it is "grayed out". So can't Duplicate the Newly Saved as Report.

I can tho....take the newly saved as Report....and use save as again on it and give it different name, but can't duplicate it either.

Guess i could save the original Report under different name, use it, edit it, etc, but not be able to Duplicate it...but just save as under different name.

      Weird?

P.S., i did a Restore when this first happened and i guess my backup was corrupted cause got same error message and problems with the backup.

Re: Error Message when Duplicating a Report

I can confirm that there is a problem with duplicating a report in Bill's database as I had the same errors come up. Instead of figuring out the problem (which I am assuming is a bit of database corruption due to trying so many things that did not work), I duplicated the table, then copied the report to this new identical table.

Bill you may want to start fresh, then add the table from this old db (Right click on white space in the tables/sets tab and choose add table) to the new, copy or duplicate or copy to (most likely) to the new table and then drop the old table from the new db. Or just recreate what you have entirely and copy any scripts, filters etc. that you know are working into the new db.

Backing up as Stan states is of utmost importance and I feel even MORE important when first learning as incorrect script and actions can crash or confuse Alpha and many times as a result corrupt something....as you learn more this will happen less and less until it becomes a faint memory---until it happens again!! :) Good ol' Murphy's Law.
