Addressing Emails

When our application presents the user with a Browse... which includes an email address field... we want to provide the user a way to initiate the creation of an email message, pre-addressed, to the email addresses they are viewing on the Browse.

Ideally, the email addresses would be "stuffed" into the "blind cc:" field and the "to:" field would be filled with the user's own email address. That way, everyone's email address will be kept private and everyone will not know who else received the email.

How best might we accomplish this; 1) if they are using the Alpha email client and 2) if they are set to use their own email client?

Perhaps if I rephrase the question, I will provoke more response :-)

How best might one "gather up" the values of a field being displayed on a Browse? For example:

1) Assume the user has filtered a Browse to display 20 records that they have an interest in.

2) Assume that each row being displayed contains a field named "eMail," and that field contains an email address.

Now, assuming that I have a toolbar button labeled "eMail;" what XBASIC code should I associate with that button which will gather the email addresses presented in the current Browse, into a single text field with commas in between each address, so that the code may then send an email addressed to those addresses?

	    vList = vList+alltrim(t.email_1)+","
	end if
	browse1.Fetch_Next()
next

email_client("[email protected]","","THis is just a TEST.","","","=vList")

I haven't done extensive work with it, though. I was just marking a couple of records in the browse to see if I could get it to send to the ones marked. You can just create a list (comma separated) of all the ones in your filtered browse. I was also putting the list in the BCC field. Also, at least one email address has to go in the To: field.

CURRENT_HIGHLIGHTED_RECORDS()


Useful only if the user can hilight the records, of course.

No luck... it's like the fetch does not move the record pointer... same problem we have been having. Using your code, we end up with vList containing the same address as many times as the loop is executed... very weird.

Ernie's code should work, but needs a little something. With it, I get a recorded added to the table because it fetches beyond the last record. also there is an additional comma in the line that might cause issues. So...

Just a guess but you would not happen to have a restriction on navigation in the form or the browse would you?
