Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Scrolling. Please Help

    Hi

    Please help

I seem to be having a problem with the scroll bar on the right of my browser:

I have a embedded the browser into the form. On my form I have placed a go to next record button. When I open my database I can see 20 records in my browser, but when I click on the button on the form to go to the next record, it moves the whole browser up and only lets me see the last entry which is now at the top of the browser.
Is there a way of being able to still see my last 20 entries in the browser, with the last entry at bottom of the browser instead of shifting all the entries up and only allowing me to see the last entry.

I also find using the scroll bar on the browser is quite slow, is there any way of speeding this up.

    Thanks

    Re: Scrolling. Please Help

    Hi Cliff,

    Welcome to Alpha.

There are a number of issues you have raised here.

Is the browse a child table?

How many records in the table?

The button you have to goto next record, are you sure it is not set to goto last record?

I think the speed of the scroll bar is down to the speed of your machine.

      Re: Scrolling. Please Help

      Hi Keith

      Thanks for your reply.

The info is entered on the form and is displayed in the embedded browser which sits above the form. The record is displayed in the browser when i click on the "goto new record" button or "goto next record" button.

At the moment there is 200 records, but i have tested it with 30 record as well, and it does the same.

The button is "goto next record", i have a "goto new record" button as well that has the same problem. I find that when a row is highlighted and i scroll down, the records move up instead of the highlighter moving down like it does in my "brilliant database" software, so when i am on the last record and i enter a new record the new record goes to the top of the browser and everything underneath is blank, instead i would like it to show my last 20 records.

The laptop i am using is a core duo processor with 2gb ram and a 512mb graphics card, i wouldnt think its slow.

Once again thanks for responding and i hope u can help.

Are you using dbf tables or some SQL tables?

Put this as the onsave event code for your browse, substituting your browse objectname.

          Code:
          for i = 1 to 20
          	[COLOR="red"]browse2[/COLOR].Fetch_Prev()
          next i
          [COLOR="red"]browse2[/COLOR].Fetch_Last()
          There can be only one.

Thanks for your replies Al and Stan.

            I am not using SQL.
I have simply imported the data off an excel spreadsheet.

I see there are quite a few people that have complained about the slow or jerky browser.
Has no one found a solution yet?

                    Re: Scrolling. Please Help

First discover the object name for your browse. This is done by clicking on the browse, right click and choose Properties. Examine the object name. Close the properties dialog.

Right click again and choose events. You should see several, choose the onsave event. Paste in the code suggested editing the object name in the suggested code (browse2) to be what you found in your instance.

                    Close, save, experiment.
                    There can be only one.

                        Re: Scrolling. Please Help

What should happen is that when a record is saved, the browse should scroll back whatever number of records you specify and then the last should be selected leaving that number of records visible. At least with earlier versions, I don't have v9.

                        What are you seeing?

                              Re: Scrolling. Please Help

                              Hi

I have made some progress in that I have realized when I am having the problem, but i still dont have the solution.

When I type the info directly into the browser and click on the New Record, or Next Record button on the toolbar things work perfectly and the curser goes onto the next line ready to enter the new line of data, it works perfect as long as I keep typing the new entry directly into the browser.

Its when I type the info onto the form instead of the browser that the problems start: The first time I click New Record, Alpha doesnt move the curser to a new line on the browser, instead it puts the curser over the writing of my last entry. The second time I click New Record it moves all the info in the browser up so that only the last entry is visible. You will also see when New Record is clicked it doesnt automatically insert the curser into the first field of the Form, this has to be done manually.

What I am trying to achieve, is to enter all my data directly onto the form, and have the browser as a read only.

I am sure it is something stupid I am missing when creating my layout but cannot work out what.

                              Any help would be appreciated.

                              Thanks
