Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Named browse in form

I have a set with one to many relations ships ie customers->Rooms->roomitems->itemparts if i create a form using the wizard it creates a form with data boxes for customers and browses for each of the child tables. If i select a room from the browse it shows each item in the room i can then see each part for the item. i can also slect individual items to see there parts.

I want to replace the dfault items browse with a named browse but when i do it is no longer linked to the form. chages to the room browse don't show on the items browse but are reflected on the parts browse. I have tried basing my browse on the table and on the same set as the parent form both fail in different ways. If i switch back to the default/embedded browse everything works again.

Any suggestions on how to make this work?

    Hi Nathan,

    Welcome to Alpha.

It would be a great help to explain why your links dont work if you could post a sample of your app here.

        Nathan,
I guess I don't understand what your problem is.
I want to replace the dfault items browse with a named browse but when i do it is no longer linked to the form.
I don't know what this means. Can you explain a little more?
chages to the room browse don't show on the items browse but are reflected on the parts browse.
I am confused. There is company>rooms>equipment>parts. Where are items? Changes of what..... design of the browse or field values in the browse? What is your expectation when you "change in a browse" to be reflected in one of the others?

At least I do, need more guidance from you to help.

on the default form if you click on a room you will see a list of equipment you can then select a piece of equipment and see the parts associated. ON the named browse form the you the equipment browse does not work correctly. if you select the second room the equipment list sometimes will update but when you select a piece of equipment it takes you back to the first room. and you cannot see parts for the selected equipment

            Nathan,
I am not seeing that. It is functioning as I would expect it to. Choose room=warehouse, the equipments are press and forklift. if I choose either press or forklift, the room remains as room2 = warehouse.

if you select either press or forklift do the correct parts show up. on both of my installations this does not work when using the named form. only when using the default embeded form.

Nathan, I am not seeing the problem you describe. I get the correct parts whether I used the named browse or the default browse.

I'm running with build 2095_3264 and the new browse object.

                    Nathan,
have you downloaded the example from the mesage board and extracted it and looked at it as we are? If not try that and see if you are seeing the issue in the example you generated.
