Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Db is bound and secure by another

I am trying to explore the security of Alpha. I have some sample from a Thread that gave 3 samples LOGIN1 LOGIN2 LOGIN3
one gave the name and password in text. the others did not. so I copied the users files and installed in another sample. I could read the data in one of the login sample.
The third is very good. It gives the message DB IS BOUND AND SECURE BY ANOTHER DATABASE.

    How is this accomplish?

Is this the best way to secure the access to alpha?

How to prevent a copy of the user dbf files to be open by another program or another ALPHA application?

Mike, I'm not following you, but there have been several posts on DBF security (in this and other Alpha forums). The native DBF table format is widely understood and many, many software programs can read DBF data. Even most modern word processors. If you need to prevent access by external programs you must encrypt the data.

In my learning process I found the login DB sample that is not accessible, I think is from TOMC, I assume that is from you.
      You must have encrypted it.

How do you encrypt a db? Is it by:

Using a master password and once it is set then proceed to encrypt the tables.

I am reading about compiling libraries. Compiling them will secure even further?

      Any thing else is required?

        Mike,

There is a whole section of the user guide dealing with Security and Encryption. How about reading that and then asking specific questions if you still have them.
        There can be only one.

That is where I am right now. I was trying to define the error mentioned in my first post, while exploring the samples.
          thanks.

Mike, I suggest you slow down. Your posts assume we know what you are doing, looking at and even thinking... and frankly, we're not that good. Do you have specific problems? Can you tell us what they are? Asking how to encrypt a db is not a specific problem, and is covered thoroughly in the helps. Asking about a specific database that is not available to us doesn't get it either. We don't know where you got it, or what you're doing with it. Saying you "have a sample" that you got from a message board thread isn't nearly specific enough. You can't seriously expect us to know what the heck you're talking about with what you've posted thus far.

Re: Db is bound and secure by another

Once a database has had security set, you can not attach the tables to another database. That is why you are getting the "DB IS BOUND AND SECURE BY ANOTHER DATABASE" error message. You will need to go to the original database, remove the security then you will be able to add that table to a new database.

Wrong Sir. You guys are good! You have demostrated it, over and over.

I apologize if I gave a wrong impression. I was only trying to get an idea how secure is alpha. In that process I encounter that error, so I did ask.

Here are the samples, I was tring to learn from.

PS: I have the most profound gratitude to all you who has help me in the past few months.
