Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Video Exporting

    Hi

My alpha database consists of 500 records, each with a path to a different video clip. The form has an ebedded browse.

What i would like my client to be able to do from the database is click on a number of records - let say 10 - and send those 10 video files to a video burning software that the client may have on his pc, eg nero burn, so that a dvd can be made of the selected video clips.

Anyone have any advice please on what i could do to achieve this.

This is where a developers headaches can begin. What program are you going to send it to. Check that programs docs for command line parameters so that you know how to call it and with what info. Going to allow the user to use whatever program they have? Guess what, you need to add the programming to accommodate this.

I'm no expert on DVD burning software, so perhaps someone else can recommend the software. But whatever you choose, you will have to download the docs and find out how to interact with that program.

To burn a DVD/CD with Nero (and probably any other burning software), you have to add the files to the project within Nero. So the problem is to send "records" from Alpha to some kind of file (s) so you can select them within the burning software.

            Re: Video Exporting

I shut down within seconds of posting my comment without thinking about a solution. I went out on the back porch for a beer and cigar and came up with a possible solution.

Mark the records you want to send. Create a report with only the field for the images. Limit the report to marked records. Save the report as a PDF. Burn the PDF. If you have Vista, you don't need any other burning software. I don't know about XP.

Now if I could only figure out how to get Alpha to keep those Hot Rods down in Corvette land (where Stan lives) from beating the West Virginia Power. (For those who want to know, the Hot Rods and the Power are minor league baseball teams and Corvettes are built in Bowling Green, Ky.)

              West Virginia Power
Isn't that a contradiction in terms like "military intelligence"?
              There can be only one.

You may want to go to the Nero forum and find out what kind of interfacing capabilities it has.

Yes Stan, you're correct. Actually, either last year or the year before, they were whipping everybody handily. The only reason I pay attention to them is because, even though I live in Ohio, I watch the Charleston/Huntington, WV TV station because they cover the news and weather in my little city (Portsmouth).

I use Nero for all my burning needs, primarily backup. I never thought about using some kind of programming with it until today because someone at the Nero forum was complaining about management not getting involved with problems concerning its C++ capabilities. It does have a program called Scout which is a database of all media files on your computer but I don't think it is applicable here. I didn't get the impression that Lionking15 was looking to write a batch program to do what he wants. If he were, I think the Windows burner would be easier to access using whatever programming language Windows uses these days (I would assume it's similar to Visual Basic).
