Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    preview report problem

    I have a table with a number of reports and have a problem with only one of the reports.

    1.) The problem report works on three machines that have A5v9 Pro when signed in as administrator or as the owner of the machine. The report will not run on these machines if signed in as any other person that has permissions to run the report.

    2.) The report will run on all run time machines when signed in as
    administrator.

    3.) The report presents the following error message when attempting to preview the report:

    Script: On push line 22: Report,preview("Previous Days Receipts"), Query.filter, query. order) Improper Character.

    I have tried to rebuild the on push using the genie and the x-basic is the same as the original.

    A similiar error message appears when attempting to print the report.

    The report filter is:

    IF(DOW(date())=2,Q_DATE=date()-3,Q_DATE=date()-1)

    The on push x-basic is:

    'Preview previous day's receipts report.

    query.filter = ""
    query.order = ""

    'Prompt user whether to print, or preview the layout. Set default to Preview
    prompt_result = ui_get_print_or_preview("Preview ")
    If prompt_result = "Print" then

    :Report.Print("Previous Day's Receipts",query.filter,query.order)

    Else if prompt_result = "Preview" then
    :Report.Preview("Previous Day's Receipts",query.filter,query.order)
    End if

    Please help.

    Re: preview report problem

    I don't think it is the problem but what happens if you lose the punctuation in the report name. Make it

    "Previous Day Receipts" or
    "Previous Receipts"

    and edit the script to match?
    There can be only one.

      Re: preview report problem

      Robert -

      Can you explain your setup a little more in detail? I got confused by your initial comments regarding which computers are having the problem. From the sounds of it, you are able to reproduce this issue on ALL workstations, is this correct?

      You mention that when signed in as "Administrator" or as "Owner" you are able to run the report. Are these user account names for the workstation or are they account names for the A5 built in security? You said that when signed in as "any other person" they generate the error messages that you provided. Is "any other person" signon for the workstation or for the A5 built in security.

      "that has permissions to run the report" from this comment it sounds like you are running the A5 built in security. Otherwise I am not aware of what method you are using to allow or deny access for running a report.

      My first thoughts are a permissions issue with the workstation. I throwing out a wild guess that "Adminstrator" and "Owner" are part of the "administrators" user group for the workstation. The "any other person" is assigned to the "users" user group for the workstation. I would test to see if moving the "any other person" user account to the "administrators" will allow the successful completion of the report.

        Re: preview report problem

        Thanks Stan and Andrew.

        I tried changing the name of the report and Alpha made a copy of the original with the new name instead or renaming the original name.

        The newly created report (Previous Days Receipts instead of Previous Day's Receipts) works fine. All I needed to do is select the new form name in the operations genie.

        Again thanks for your help!!
