Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Bubble Help on Report

When I place a Hotspot on a report there is no feature for a bubble help. I then thought of using a button with transparent fill and no border (to make it invisible), but for some reason the bubble help does not appear when I hover over the button (same button on a form shows the bubble help).
My question is how to get A5 to display a bubble help when the user hovers over a button/hotspot on a report? Thanks.

    Re: Bubble Help on Report

I don't think report objects have bubble help. Where/how are you trying to do this?

I think, instead, you might be better off using the new Interactive reporting features. Right click on the object, select Events, and use the OnFlyOver to show something. Whatever you show might have a timer on it to automatically close after n seconds, or you could use the OnFlyOverLeave to close the bubble help.

      Re: Bubble Help on Report

      Hello Steve:
Thanks for the reply. Here how I am using it: the user clicks on a button on a layout that opens/preview a report; on the report I currently have 2 invisible buttons, one to print, one to email. The only way to distinguish one from the other is by hovering over the button on the report, the buttons have different colors on the fly-over.
I'll follow your suggestion and use the OnFlyover to show a brief dialog box and FlyOver leave to close it. Thanks for the help.

        Gaby,
You just need a timed modeless xdialog on the OnFlyOver event. No messing with the OnFlyOverLeave needed.

        Code:
        ui_modeless_dlg_box("Message",<<%dlg%
        {nocaption}{background=light yellow}{position=3,3}
         Print this report.
        %dlg%)
        sleep(1)
        ui_modeless_dlg_close("Message")

Ah, I think the real nut here is that reports don't use buttons. Maybe you can put one on there - I've never tried - but I wouldn't expect it to work. The new Interactive Events will get you all the things you need though...

Edit: Just looked for an article I know I wrote. It's here:

          http://www.imakenews.com/alphasoftwa...e000078477.cfm

I don't know if this would work on a report, but I figure if I took the time to track it down I might as well post the URL here.

            Steve,

That looks like a really great newsletter. Is it still being published?

            Regards,

FWIW: I put my buttons on the report (1 to print the other to email), they are invisible until the user hovers over the button, . Start with the form, once on the report hover the mouse in the the area next to the title of the report.
