Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RTF Fields in Reports do not Grow

Has anyone found a workaround for this?

I need to place an rich text field in a report header and for it to grow.

I have ticked the properties box for this but it does not grow. I have tried removing other fields on the same row as the RTF and also moving the control away from the line above but no joy.

I have attached a screen dump of the report - see the RTF containing the field Work. This is a memo field.

John, I've never needed to "grow" objects in the report header. Do you get the same result in the details band? In the "page header" band?

Re: RTF Fields in Reports do not Grow

A simple RTF box in a report header grows for me (ditto for a RTF memo field). Me thinks there is something else you are trying to do that isn't clear from your screen shot. Perhaps a sample DB of what you are trying to do would help us see what the problem is?

OK here is a stripped down sample.

Go to the form Jobs. Select a job, click on the Work button to add as much text as you want, save it, exit back to the jobs screen and press the invoice button.

The RTF field is the with the title service and is in the report header. This RTF contains the work memo field.

The customer needs to keep this invoice layout and will not change it.

The JobInvs report is not based on the same table as the Jobs form. Can't print or preview invoice for the selected job. What am I missing?

Re: RTF Fields in Reports do not Grow

The invoice report is based on the set Jobinvcs which consists of

            Jobs as parent
one-to-one JobWork related by job no
one-to-many JobInvD related by job no
one-to-many Outs related by vehicle reg no

JobWork contains a memo field of the work done which is displayed at the top of the report in an RTF which should expand.

JobInvD is used to write any recovery equipment, parts, sub-contracted work etc used in the job into one table rather than have a report with several sub-reports in the detail section.

Outs stores any outstanding issues for that vehicle.

When I select e.g. the first or second job then I can preview an invoice w/o problem, excepting the RTF which is not expanding.

              John,

Is there any any reason your header has to be a Page Header? Because if you move all those fields into a Report Header and then delete the Page Header it seems to work as desired. Not sure why it shouldn't also grow in a Page Header but it does not.
