Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

View and Select Multiple Images on Form or Browse

    Please Help Me!

I am trying to open a form that will show me all of my images that are stored in a table. I would like the form to open up and show me all the images only in rows and columns and then I would be able to click on a individual image. This would allow me to go into more detail on this person when I click on the image.

    Can anyone help?

I included a browse that I made but I would like all of the images to only appear once and show me all of the images. This is what I would like for it to look like.

    Is this possible?

Thank you so much for your time and help!!!

    Chad

This would be possible but would require a lot of coding. Are your images stored in jpeg/bmp fields or image file reference fields?
    There can be only one.

The are stored as jpeg/bmp fields.

Is this something that Alpha could even do?

This is not something that Alpha was designed to do. It can likely be done by some serious coding.

Abandon the jpeg/bmp and move to image file reference fields.
Build a table to support the browse.
Read the existing table image file reference fields and write them sequentially to the new table, across, down, across, etc.
          Display the browse.
Code the browse events to do something based on the active field (image).

Sounds like you really want an image broswer that would display the exif/iptc info.

            Wow,

I am stunned at your intelligence! I cannot believe the information you must know if this seems easy to you :) Thank you very much for your help and I will see what I can do. I changed everything to image reference fields but i am not sure how to write them sequenctially to the table as across, down, across. :(

Thank you so much and I will post what I come up with if I can figure it out. I am brand new to Alpha :(

VERY EXCITED AND GRATEFUL THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE AROUND!!! THANK YOU!!!

Re: View and Select Multiple Images on Form or Browse

I didn't say it sounded easy but i can envision how it might be done.

Your table to support the browse will have a number of fields defined by you to hold the image reference values. This number will depend on how much horizontal scrolling you want to have. Let's postulate 5 fields.

              You open the main table.
              You open the "browse" table.
You start a loop that counts to five.
You get the image reference in the current main table record.
You start a record in the "browse" table.
You write the first image reference to the first field in the "browse" table.
You move to the next record in the main table.
You get the image reference in this main table record.
You write the this image reference to the second field in the "browse" table.
You move to the next record in the main table.
You get the image reference in this main table record.
You write the this image reference to the third field in the "browse" table.
You move to the next record in the main table.
You get the image reference in this main table record.
You write the this image reference to the fourth field in the "browse" table.
You move to the next record in the main table.
You get the image reference in this main table record.
You write the this image reference to the fifth field in the "browse" table.
You move to the next record in the main table.
You loop back to where the start of the loop.
              There can be only one.

                hi,

I really like your problem ... Once i had similar issue but i changed my bosses mind not to do it this way heheh.

I had some spare time now so i decided to help.

This is something that i have done pretty fast and it is obviously not done yet, however it should give you an idea of how it can be done.
I am sure that after some time studding it you will be able to adapt it to your needs.
I will also be happy to see the final result - with all the interface done.

If you need more help let me know.
                good luck.

                  Wow!!

That is exactly what I needed!!

I am working on this and will post my final version when I am done. i will have a 5 x 3 matrix of photos.

All I need is the code for a previous button. The next button works perfect but I am having a hard time performing the previous function for this page.

                  Thank you!!!!!!!

                    I'm glad you like it!

If you still have problems with the prev button ill give you the code later on - too busy right now.

Just post your final version and I can update it if you want.

                      Nicely done.

Might I suggest using buttons instead of bitmap objects so that a user can select a picture and you can respond to the selection?

                        Stan,
Nice touch... but it needs one more line inserted into line 47 to get the button to show after it has been hidden:

                        Code:
'if there is photo then disply it in proper place

                        IF (v_start_from<=i) THEN
                        [COLOR="Red"]eval(v_temp_prefix+"B"+j+".object.visible") = .t.[/COLOR]
                        eval(v_temp_prefix+"B"+j+v2_temp_sufix) = a_photo_list[v_start_from]
                        eval(v_temp_prefix+"bitmap"+j+v_temp_sufix)= a_photo_list[v_start_from]
                        eval(v_temp_prefix+"bitmap"+j+".object.visible") = .t.

                          Right you are.

Added a little coding to the buttons to illustrate an action that could be taken.

                              Hello,

Everything works fine and I took out the code for the bitmap because all I need are the buttons to be used but how to I make sure the images are always "Best Fit". I loaded some pictures that are a little big and they fill the entire button plus some. Is there code I could add to this to make it best fit?
