Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Check Box -List Box Parameter Default

I'm using the Script Genie to define an "on Push" event for a button.

The button prints a report, and I am using a Check Box - List Box to prompt for Parameters. The 'choices' come from a table. Is there anyway to have the default value be that all choices are checked (selected)?

I've tried entering .T. as the default value, but it doesn't work.

    Thanks!

The check box represents a variable? The way to have all checked would be to populate the variable with all the possible choices, then display the check box.
    There can be only one.

The check box does not represent a variable (I'm unfortunately not that sophisticated). The check box lists the 5 field values (records) in a table called "Status" that serves as a table look-up for a field also called 'Status' in the main Table the report is based on.

Since I first posted, I discoverd that if I, in the Script Genie, typed in the name of 1 of the 5 possible field values in the 'Default' section, that choice shows up 'checked'. So it is not looking for .t. or .f., but the actual value of the field.

Is there an equation such as =date() that would include every possible value in the field?

So if you can get all five values in the default section they will all show up as checked.

I tried that Stan, and it works. Putting all the values in the default has them checked in the dialog box.

Ellen, you said your Check list box is based on a table and that you're creating the dialog box in a script. How are you getting the choices into the dialog box from the table... there doesn't seem to be an option to read values from a table - are you typing them in?

Here's an odd behaviour of the Check List Box dialog.

Build one, and, while you're building click the More Options button. You'll get a dialog with about 9 options... Height... etc. Finish entering the fields and click the next button, then click the back button. Now click the More Options button. I get a different list - just a couple of items - one being the Selection Style. Could someone confirm this?

The way I'm getting at entering in the default values, if I list more than one value, either separated by a comma or just in a string, none of them are checked.

I'm in Code Editor for Menu:Button8:OnPush
Add New Action : Print a Layout
Script Genie opens up. Select my report, hit next
              Prompt for Paramaters at Runtime:
Add Filter, Select Field = Status, Operator = is equal to, Option = Prompt at Runtime
              Hit Customize Parameter button
              Select "Check-box-list-box"
Define Choices, select Computed Automatically, and here is where I identify the table that I want to use for my choices.

I'm attaching what it looks like when converted to Inline Xbasic. The default values are highlighted in red. When I list more than one value, like shown in attached, none of the boxes are checked.

Didn't know that... will try it when I get back to my office. There must be some way to preload the default choices. When I look at Xbasic code the the Check-List box the choices are laid out as

                A
                B
                C

in the xdialog code. I would imagine it's the same for the report stuff - so it's a CRLF delimited list.
