Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Add a Tab on an Existing Form

    Rudy here,

I have an existing form (Residents)that has 1 year's worth of dues on it and the user would like me to add 9 more years of dues to it. The Form is "Full" and I cannot place any more data entry fields on it without the need to scrool down.

I opened the Residents form, went into design mode, selected object, new, and selected Tabbed. It placed the object in the top left corner of my Residents form. I then went into properities and removed Page 2 and Page 3 tabs and renamed Page-1tab to "Dues". I saved the form and when I opened it, I expected a blank area to appear when I pressed on the "Dues" tab. Nothing happened.

My goal is to move the 1 years dues from the form to the "Dues" tab form area and add the other 9 years fields to it.

The Residents form is to have all data except for the dues and when the user clicks on the "Dues" tab, I want to display all 10 years dues fields for data entry.

I hope this is clear to all. Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Rudy

It sounds to me like you expected a blank area to open covering the visible screen? A tabbed object saves space on a form by use of the tabs (multiple, not single).

When you select the first tab you see the objects on it. When you select the second tab, the objects on it become visible and those on the first are hidden.

We probably need more information to help you decide how to proceed. What tables and what fields are involved. I am thinking you are currently using one table with a field for each month to record dues?
    There can be only one.

Rather the create 10 fixed years of data for which each year contains a Posting Date, a Check Date, a Check #, a Qtr Ending, a Current Year (yyyy), and an Amount and place it on a 2nd tab I decided to:

          1) Adde an Auto Increment field called Client_mst_rec_no to my Client Master (main) table.
          2) Assigned a Serial Value to the field thanks to Peter Greulich's instructions.
          3) Created a seperate Table called Client_Child and included a Client_Child_Rec_No and added the other mentioned fields in the 1st paragraph.
          4) Created a new Table Set using the Client and Client_Child table using the *.Rec_no's as a 1 to many link.
          5) Created a new data entry form from the old one and included an embedded browse (Child Table) to the form.
          6) Changed some code to accomodate the new set.

While this may seem like a lot of work, I now have a form that handles an infinite number of Dues Years and Quarters. I also inverted the sequence of the Child Table so that latest year and quarter loads on top.

I hope this is clear to you. If not, please let me know and I'll answer any other questions that you have.
