Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Embedded Browse - cursor moves to last record

I have a form with an embedded browse. After changing data in a row and moving to another row, the cursor jumps to the last record in the list. I want the cursor to move to the next or previous record, depending on which arrow (up or down) is pressed. Is there a way to prevent this?

    Thanks,

    Bob A.

    Hi Bob,

I have that weird situation too.
It's on a form with a set. Is that also in your case?
Have not yet solved it to my satisfaction because it's not happening that much.

I have a buttonscript that before it enters a new record, it now performs a quicksearch on that record based on a keyword.
But I must make some time to prevent this with in an elegant way with the child's recno() and just go back after change/entermode.

Sorry I can't give you the details yet

Re: Embedded Browse - cursor moves to last record

I had similar experiences as all of you described.
        Somehow the problems are resolved.
Just checked a form with an embedded browse that is based on a set. I have entered the following in the OnSave event of the embedded browse: topparent:browse1.refresh()
On the other hand I noticed that a similar form without this event works properly too!
Previously I had troubles with the latest patch based on the new browse. The cursor jumped to the wrong record and records seemed to change status whilst nothing was actually changed. I submitted a bug report and a couple of month ago I received a fix.
I think you might consider sending in a bug report.

Thanks for the input. I don't believe I ever got this resolved. Jo - where is the fix for this? Is it in the beta of v10?

Would one of you be able to post a sample database? I like to see this - see if it's a problem with my current build - I don't recall seeing it in my projects. Appreciated.

Re: Embedded Browse - cursor moves to last record

              Bob,

I don't know if that has anything to do with a V10 beta.
              My current build is 2329-3336

By my request I received a couple of links from Selwyn to download the fixes. I don't understand why these fixes aren't made available to the public.
As far as I'm concerned feel free to try following downloads.

              http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a..._dllexe_v9.zip

              http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...ate/aex_v9.zip

You can unzip into your A5V9 program folder (and runtime folder if applicable)

                David,

I think you still might have a sample I posted in a thread where you kindly helped me out.

                  Thanks a lot.
Downloading the newbrowse file fixed it.
