Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    button properties and OnPush event

I seem to be having a difference of opinion with A5V9 2095 3264. Hopefully this is not a bug.

In the past, when working on form objects; a right click on either 'properties' or 'events' would immediately bring up the 'proper' dlg box to proceed in order to make or modify the chosen property or event.

Lately, I have had problems with 'paste appearance' not working and with button properties and events. While right clicking on some buttons still works correctly; in other cases, this action brings up a secondary dlg box that re-asks the user again for the same options. Woefully, in many cases, this secondary dlg box does nothing......

This secondary dlg box does not appear to be a regular A5 dlg box, more 'a text box' than a dlg box. Smaller font with no borders or colors.

    Anyone else having similar problems?????

Re: button properties and OnPush event

Tried re-installing A5V9 after being unable to create a shortcut from an app......

That was a waste of time.... Still no button events and no shortcuts...

Monday am phone call to Alpha..

here's a small adb to illustrate the problem.
go to the coding sheet and try to edit the return button.
also try to change properties on any object.
let me know if you figure it out.

Re: button properties and OnPush event

Uh, there are no forms in your sample DB.

But no, I have not seen a similar problem. Even though you have tried reinstalling, it still sounds like some kind of corruption with you installation. If so you may have to clean out your registry (any v9 stuff) after uninstalling and before reinstalling. Ditto for everything in your application data area under Settings & Documents. But before you go to such an extreme, make sure it is not just some corruption with your form. For example, does it happen with Alpha Sports forms?

Re: button properties and OnPush event

          Greetings: Hope someone is listening.

I have a form named "locate". It has two tables parent "wip" linked to "activity" (one to many)
          by a field "control_nbr"

What happens now, is when the form is opened, a button that prompts for a "control_nbr" is pushed using the mouse, the 5 digit control number is entered manually and the data pertaining to that cotrol number is retrieved.

The 5 digit information is in hand, having been written on a workbag that has been handwritten. We have recently activated printing the work bags and barcoding the control_nbr which now appears on the workbag.

Since we have one to three hundred entries per day, we would like to speed up the process of entering this data.

First, I would like, when opening the form to simultaneously fire the onpush button for prompting for a control number, saving the need to click on that button. (button9)

After the appropriate record is displayed, I would like the cursor to jump to the child table, "new record" line. We have prepared a barcode sheet of about 20 different activity events meeting our requirements, such as <polishing - polish for set> (2 separate feilds), or, <jewelry - file castings> etc... Scanning a second time from the prepared sheet of barcodes would then immediately follow the first scan and would place the correct data in the appropriate fields.

After saving the record, I need to repeat the process for a different control
          number.

Since I do not need to re-open the form, presumably, all I need to do is to rescan the next work bag. However, the prior scanned number remains in the prompt box and scanning a second time simply creates a ten digit control number.
I need the prvious control_nbr as earlier scanned, if possible, to disappear,
allowing a new control nbr to be scanned in.

In summary, on opening the form, I need to activate the onpush event
          "which control_nbr?
Then, after this first scan, I need to jump to the child table in the new record line. and scan a second time.

I cannot automatically 'save record' - There is another field which is occasionally filled in, a remarks field which explains an action for a jeweler,
polisher or setter to take note of.

After, "save the record", I need to repeat the process with an empty prompt for new control_nbr.

Considering the number of daily entries, I can live with only part of this being accomplished, but of course, would like to "have it all".

          Regards,
          John Linley

            Hi John,
I think I understand what you intend to do in your application...it doesn't really relate to this thread's topic however. And you never really asked a specific question that one could answer....the gist is that, yes, you can program what you want to do entirely under most circumstances (always dependent upon those :) ).

You have many things to do....what are you currently having problems with--maybe I or someone could solve one and then start a new thread with a corresponding thread name for the next issue. And it will be MUCH easier in this case to have a sample to modify to show you how--

Mike is of course right about this needing to be a new thread. I'm going to start one for you and try to answer some things.

If you are having trouble figuring out how to start a new thread I've attached a screenshot showing the big blue New Thread button visible when you open a specific forum.
