Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Emb Browse problem

    I have figured out why issue 2) does not work. I used Previous() which works on parent table only (not in child table). So my question has now changed to : How to refer to a value in a field in previous row in an emb browse?

    Issue 1 remains a mystery

      I revised your code on the increment button - had to convert it to xbasic -

      I put remarks by the code to help you understand.

      Oh you are right - previous when working with a set only will show the previous value of the primary table in the set

      Edit: I did not delete the balance of your code from the button - my code stops at the first end. The rest can be deleted.

      Another thing is that I had no trouble deleting a row record using Ctrl D or the delete from the menu on the highlighted row.

        Tom,

        Reg issue2, that's awesome.

        Reg Issue 1: deleting any row except the last row is not an issue. Deleting the last row is the issue. I really tried and tried and tried and does not work on my end. Did you delete the last row or a row before the last? I am running the latest update. Thanks again for your help.

          I can delete the record in the last row. Am also using the current update to v9 -2095-3264.

          Don't have any problem.

          Here is what I did. I went to the main form. In the sessions browse I clicked on the last line in the browse and highlighted it with the row selector. Then pressed Ctrl d - msg box asked if I wanted to delete the record and I pushed okay - record was gone. Tried again with another record (primary) clicked on the last record in the browse, then used the right click drop down and selected delete and record gone.

          Sorry I could not be of more help on delete last record issue.

          Glad issue one worked out for you

            Gaby

            I have been able to duplicate the problem. The first time I was not using the new browse. When I used A5V9 with the new browse - the problem reared its ugly head. Yiou can delete any record except the last record in the browse.

            Evidently you are using the new browse.

            Submit a bug report - maybe they will fix it V10.

            It does work however, if you don't use the update with the new browse.

                Had more time to look at the increment date button

                Here is cleaner updated code using the increment_value function

                Code:
                topparent:browse2.activate()'activates the sessions browse

                sys_send_keys("{^END}")'this sends the cursor to the last row in the browse

                xbasic_wait_for_idle() 'this gives the program time to reposition the cursor to the last record in the browse

                dim p_date as d
                p_date=topparent:browse2.date.value 'this gets the value of the last date

                topparent:Browse2.new_record()'starts a new record
                parentform:browse2:date.value=increment_value(p_date)'this increments p_date by one day and
                                                                      'enters the new incremented date into the browse
                parentform:browse2.refresh_layout() 'this refreshes the layout

                end
                FWIW

                    Tom - Why V10. V9 is the current version and surely it should still be supported for bugs.

                      Just my opinion - last update was March 19, 2009 and V10 is not that far away. Happened this way with both version 7 and version 8.

                        Seems you've found a reproducible bug and have an example ready to submit to Alpha. I encourage you to submit a formal bug report including a copy of your example and instructions for them to follow as an attachment.

                          I submitted the bug report with a sample file with notes and explanations yesterday.

                            It's the set referential integrity that is causing the lock on the deletion.

                              Mike

                              If I use the latest patch (no new browse) the last record can be deleted.

                              When I change to latest patch new browse, when you first highlight the row (record) to be deleted it does not take. But If you enter control D right after that, then the record is deleted.

                              If you remove all referential integrity, then you can delete the last record.

                              If you switch back to no new browse, you can delete the last record even with referential integity on.
