Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Xdialog Variable not Showing in Drag Drop List

    Hi Mike,

If my questions are not clear, it's because I'm confused. The v_mth GLOBAL variable can be from "01" through "12" and I need a script or something that states
    if v_mth="01"
    v_mth_desc="January"
    else
    if v_mth="02"
v_mth_desc="February" on so forth and so on, up to month 12.

In my Report, I drag the GLOBAL variable v_mth onto it. It contains any month from "01" through "12". Where do I create the script to interrogate the variable and based on it's contents, move in the correct Month Decsription based on the above code. Also where do I create the GLOBAL variable v_mth_desc? v_mth_desc should be placed on the report also and reflect the value of January, February, etc. based on the value of v_mth.

    Thanks,
    Rudy

Re: Xdialog Variable not Showing in Drag Drop List

You can use Alpha functions to derive the month name, no code needed.

      Code:
      cmonth(ctod(v_mth+"/01/1950"))
Just create a calculated field for the report.
      There can be only one.

        Hi Stan,

How's everything going today? Good I hope. The user can actually run a December 2009 report in january of 2010. Is your function using the current date system field? If so, it's not what I'm looking for.

Do you see any reference to the system date field?

I think Mike was suggesting something similar.

Take a month "number" in the form 01 to 12.
Make a character "date" with it like 01/01/1918, the day of the month and the year are not important so long as the result is valid (not 01/49/1918 for example).

Use the ctod function to translate the character "date" into a date value.

Use the cmonth function to return the name of the month in the date value.

The cmonth function will return "January" for dates 01/01 to 01/31 of any and every year.

Perhaps it will help to see the steps illustrated in the interactive editor.

          Code:
v_mth = "01" 'we start with something like this

v_chardate = v_mth+"/01/1918" 'we get a character "date" like this
          ? v_chardate
          = "01/01/1918"

v_date = ctod(v_chardate) 'we translate to a date value like this
          ? v_date
          = {01/01/1918}

? cmonth(v_date) ' we get the month name like this
          = "January"

? cmonth(ctod(v_mth+"/01/1918")) 'collapse all those steps into one expression
          = "January"

            Rudy,

            1) how does the user select the year for the report?
            2) does the table include a relevant date field?

Re: Xdialog Variable not Showing in Drag Drop List

The user selects the year from an xdialog window prior to entering the report("On Push" Event. He selects the year from a list. The year is stored in a global variable called v_curr_yr.

The user also selects the month for an xdialog window also, same ("On Push" event used above for the year. This is also selected from a list. The month is stored in a global variable calles v_mth.

The detail table that's used for the report has a process date attached to each detail record.

                Hi Rudy,

Do you have the Year and Month selection in the same dialog? If not, is there a special reason?

Do you have the selections from drop downs?
                Regards

                  Rudy,
Attached is an example of what I envision you are trying to accomplish. See if this helps.
