Has anyone upgraded SimpleChart to the standard or enterprise edition in there Alpha Five implementation? Was the upgrade straightforward, or did it require some tweaking? I'm considering upgrading to standard, and I just wanted to get an idea about any challenges ahead. Thanks.

Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:

Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.

Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
Hi Adam,
I upgraded to Standard. All the coding works just the same.
Why do you want to upgrade?Regards

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
Thanks for the response Keith.
I'm considering upgrading more as a preemptive measure than to solve an immediate problem. I don't have much experience with SimpleChartLite, but it seems very limited compared to the charting capabilities of Excel. Since one of the hurdles of implementing a proper database application in an organization is convincing users to break their dependency on Excel, I don't want the limitations of SimpleChartLite to hold back an implementation of an Alpha Five application. I would appreciate any thoughts you, or others, have on this subject.
As far as my question about the upgrade process, I wanted to make sure that the SimpleChart installer recognizes the SimpleChartLite .dll in Alpha Five and automatically replaces it with the Standard Edition. Did you find that to be the case in your upgrade?
Thanks.

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
Hi Adam,
There is no comparison with Simple Chart and the graphs you can create in Excel or any other graph program. Simple Charts will not do 3D, at any level.
Simple chart is the only one that I know intergrates with Alpha, but I'm sure there are others for which I suggest you do a good search.
There are no issues that I can remember about upgrading.Regards

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
"convincing users to break their dependency on Excel"
Isn't that the truth. I used to work for a company with about 2000 engineers. You couldn't get these highly educated people to either understand a database or why a database is better for much of the work being done in Excel. Yet, when they were unknowingly using a program which was actually a database application, they thought it was great.

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
Keith I was wondering when you upgraded to simple charts standard edition what you had to do.
I have downloaded the demo version to try some of the additional functionality (orientation is not available in lite version)
and even though I have installed I am still getting
chartX.orientation =scChartOrientationHorizontal
OLE Automation Error. Source is SimpleChartLite.AxisChartGenerator.4."
This property or method is not available in the Lite version of SimpleChart. Visit www.simplechart.net to find out how to upgrade."
chartX.orientation subelement not found."
Any ideas?
thanks

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
Hi Claire,
First you have to make sure the full version is installed so that Alpha can see it in the list of ActiveX Controls.
Then you have to rebuild your graph with this new version, which you select from the list, as you did before.
With a little luck you should be able to get it to work.Regards

Re: SimpleChart upgrade
Roelof,
Googling shows an old version 1.1 for free at sourceforge.....but SimpleChartLite (if that actually is what you are referring to) is included in Alpha automatically; at least up through v9....documentation as a chm file is also located in your install file. So check your install file to see if it is still there to see.
