Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem with "shipping same as billing"

I am pretty new to this, so please bear with me. I am just switching from v.5 to v.9.

I want to use the buttons like in the AlphaSports database (shipping same as billing) and "copy billing address". I have looked at that info in "design notes" in the AlphaSports" forms and also did a search on these boards.

I've tried copying those buttons from those forms into mine and also followed the directions to create a new button on my form.

I am getting this error message. (including image also)

    Script:OnPush line:43
    topparent:Ship_country.text = expression_result
This layout does not allow data to be changed.

I checked the properties for this form and I don't have any restrictions checked so not sure what this means "This layout does not allow data to be changed."

I am also very green on "scripts" and "codes" and have no idea how to check "line:43" in the code. I've tried finding out how to check the codes but am overwhelmed at all this.

Can anyone give me any tips.

    Thanks so much.

    Carol,

I looked at my Alpha Sports and I don't see any buttons that have code on them. Rather I see an rtf object with an expression in it that determines the text based on the value of a logical field in the customer table. So, I think we need a sample database with your form and buttons to see what's going on.

As for checking line 43 in a script, right click on the button, select events, push. If it is an xbasic script you will see the code. If it Action Scripting (probably not in this case) you can convert it to xbasic by going up to Code on the top menu (after opening the Action Script) and converting it to xbasic, where you can then see line 43.

Still, I think we need a sample database. I will be leaving soon, so others may have to jump in here.

Thank you! I got it working now!

Now I have to figure out how to make the "Same as billing button to work." I got the "copy address to work" by converting it to xbasic and making some corrections.

The forms in AlphaSports I was referring to are in the invoice forms (and I believe there is one in the customer form).

Drats! It works for the first record I did, but then when I go to the next record, I get the same error message again.

          Hi Carol,

There is a button on the Customer Information form to copy the billing address to the delivery address. I cant see one on the Invoice form.

It is built with Action scripting and uses three actions.

Look at each one and and understand what they are doing and the order in which each action is performed.

I would suggest you work with a test form first and make sure you can take the value from one field and insert it into another. When you can do that, then build it into your application.

No need to post any sample here, for this is purely a simple exercise to practice and learn.

            Keith,

From what she says and the error, I think it is probable that she is NOT using the button from Alpha Sports (and yes, the invoice form has no button as I indicated above). She alluded to using some other button code copied from some other app. So I still think we need a sample of her form if she wants to know what is wrong with the code she is using. In any case, I am out of here for several hours if not all day, so...

I looked again at the AlphaSports and there is a "same as billing" on the invoice and on the customer information forms.

I copied most of the whole form into my form and still get that error.

I am including images of the 2 forms from AlphaSports and there is a red box around the part I am talking about.

Re: Problem with "shipping same as billing"

Perhaps some of the confusion is due to calling the "Shipping same as Billing" checkboxes buttons.

Field rules for the Customer table specify that if Shipping same as Billing is true, the shipping addresse fields are "skipped".

The Invoice Form contains a richtext object that displays the shipping address if it's different from the billing. But not otherwise. This effect is achieved by the use of an IF() expression in the richtext object (Shipping Address) itself. You can see the expression if you examine the object in design mode.

Okay - now I understand that those are only checkboxes.

Next to the checkbox on the "Customers Information" form, there is another icon that copies the billing info into the shipping info. When you click on it, it asks" Are you sure you want to copy the billing address to the shipping address"

This is where I am getting that error message.

Sorry about the confusion, but I am new at this.

                    Hi Carol,

I'm pleased you have now found the button to copy the fields from Billing to Delivery.

Dont just copy the button and the underling code, by doing that and getting the error message will only confuse you.

As I suggested before, look at the Action Scripts that have been used and learn from them.

You will be your own best teacher. Remember, you had to practice before you learned how to ride that bike.
