Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Throttle Runtime

    V9 Run-Engine Installed from CD 06-22-2009

One the server is the application plus the runtime (Unlimited) The reason for this is that the client wants to use the app on the server as well as on the workstations.

There are 2 workstations so with the server there will be 3 users and the throttle back set to 3.

In this configuration will the throttle back work on the server as well as the workstations?

    Thanks

    Re: Throttle Runtime

As I understand the throtlle is based on the startup.control file. This file needs to installed in the directory where runtime files are installed. I believe that each machine will need these files to actually run the program. I don't think it can be run from the server like you describe. I presume the startup can detect when the adb is open and how many users open at once.

The advice when creating the runtime is to also put a script into the autoexec that looks for the startup control file if it is not found the program will not run. The sample of the script is in the view where you create the startup file.

    Am I correct?

      Re: Throttle Runtime

      Mark,

The startup.control file is in the runtime folder.
The script looking for the startup.control is in the autoexec of the application.

The runtime and application are installed on one computer each with their own folder.

The application has a startup screen from a desktop shortcut.

When selecting the shortcut alpha starts but it immediately shuts down. It appears that the autoexec script is not reading the startup.control in the runtime folder.

          Re: Throttle Runtime

          Thanks Mark,

However, using RuntimeEngine Unlimited and setting the throttle back to 3, I would not expect the system not to recognize a single installation on 1 computer.

Where to look next? Think I'll try Alpha and see if they have an answer.

          Regards

              Re: Throttle Runtime

Installed the runtime and app on the server and networked to 2 workstations and all working correctly. However, when I try to open the development app it shuts down and the only way to open it is to copy over a backup that has no script in the autoexec.

Well, maybe not the only way....have you tried pressing the control+shift keys down on starting the database (that is, if you did not check the box that disallows this method)?

                  Mike,

                  Thanks.

Tried you suggestion but it did not work. Where will I find the check box? Looked in settings but could not find it.

                    Re: Throttle Runtime

I have only seen the checkbox when the Control+shift brings up the dialog box --it is on that dialog.....I have always wondered how to reverse the checkbox after once checked.

                    Anyone know of a way??

Thanks for your help. The debug in Startup does the trick.
