Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    What to do with multiple SQL arguments

    Hi all
    I keep getting "One or more argument values referenced in SQL query, but were not found" I can not see anything wrong with the following code: Any advice on this one would be appreciated.

    dim conn as SQL::Connection
    dim args as SQL::Arguments
    dim connString as C
    dim query as C
    dim tbl as P
    dim StartDate as d
    dim EndDate As d

    StartDate = "03/03/2009"
    EndDate = "04/03/2009"

    query = "SELECT * FROM dbqwikorder WHERE GUESTARRIVALDATE BETWEEN :StartDate AND :EndDate;"

    connString = a5_GetNamedConnectionString("FGBookings")
    IF .not. conn.open(connString) THEN
    ui_msg_box("Error", conn.CallResult.text)
    end
    END IF

    IF .not. conn.open(connString) THEN
    ui_msg_box("Error", conn.CallResult.text)
    end
    END IF

    IF .not. args.Add("GUESTARRIVALDATE", StartDate)
    end
    END IF

    IF .not. args.Add("GUESTARRIVALDATE", Enddate)
    end
    END IF

    tbl = table.open("sqlbookingsdump")
    IF .not. conn.ToOpenTable(query, args, tbl, .t.) THEN
    ui_msg_box("Error", conn.CallResult.text)
    END IF

    I haven't tried this yet, but wouldn't it be...

    query = "SELECT * FROM dbqwikorder WHERE GUESTARRIVALDATE BETWEEN " + StartDate + " AND " + EndDate + " ;"

    Your parameters are not being evaluated inside the quoted string. Again... I haven't tried it yet in a database but that's what it looks like.

      The args.add()/SQL statement are wrong - it's the argument name first then the value to put in the argument. That's not matching with what you have in your SQL statement.

        Please disregard my first post... ignorance.

        From what I can see in the documentation for args.add your code should be...

        if .not. args.Add("StartDate", StartDate)

        and

        if .not. args.Add("EndDate", EndDate)

        is that right?

          Hi Al, David,

          AL please excuse my ignorance. I do not really understand what you are saying. Can you please explain more? Normally one would have the column name first in args.Add("GUESTARRIVALDATE", StartDate) and then the variable which in both cases are last. The query that I am using was generated with the query genie.

          Many Thanks,
          Peter Gagiano

            Hey Peter,

            Yikes... could the genie have it wrong?

            Have a look in the help file for

            SQL::Arguments::Add()

            I've built a test against a MySQL table. I built the code to look like yours and got the same error. Then I changed the code to look like the example in the help file and it works.

            For the function args.Add, the first part is the name of your ":" argument without the ":", and then the name of your variable.

            Just fix those those args.Add statements and you'll be fine.

            In fact, to reduce confusion a bit, do this... change your variable names a bit... you don't really have to, but just for the purposes of explanation...

            Code:
            dim conn as SQL::Connection
            dim args as SQL::Arguments
            dim connString as C
            dim query as C
            dim tbl as P
            dim SDate as d
            dim EDate As d

            SDate = "03/03/2009"
            EDate = "04/03/2009"

            query = "SELECT * FROM dbqwikorder WHERE GUESTARRIVALDATE BETWEEN :StartDate AND :EndDate;"

            connString = a5_GetNamedConnectionString("FGBookings")
            IF .not. conn.open(connString) THEN
               ui_msg_box("Error", conn.CallResult.text)
               end
            END IF

            ' Is this required??? same as above.
            'IF .not. conn.open(connString) THEN
            '   ui_msg_box("Error", conn.CallResult.text)
            '   end
            'END IF

            IF .not. args.Add("StartDate", SDate)
               end
            END IF

            IF .not. args.Add("EndDate", EDate)
               end
            END IF

            tbl = table.open("sqlbookingsdump")
            IF .not. conn.ToOpenTable(query, args, tbl, .t.) THEN
               ui_msg_box("Error", conn.CallResult.text)
            END IF
            Your code is using GUESTARRIVALDATE in the args.Add function... and it shouldn't be there. Hope that helps.

                  Thanks for the reminder Mike...

                  Peter,

                  I'd like to try to duplicate the genie code that created this problem so I can report it. Can you start me in the right direction. Just creating a query doesn't seem to head in the right area. Give me a few of the steps you used and I can duplicate and report. Thanks.

                    David,

                    I do not think this is a bug. Only the query part of the script was generated with the genie which is correct (query = "SELECT * FROM dbqwikorder WHERE GUESTARRIVALDATE BETWEEN :StartDate AND :EndDate;"). It was my usage of the variables and the arguments using the latter in the wrong context. I used action script SQL(using AphaDAO) to generate the query.

                    Thanks David, Mike
