Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Parent Table Restricted: Refetching Error

    This one is strange. I have seen previous posts where there was a bug on the last record, but the only time I get this error is when I try to delete the very first record. I can always delete any other record, but never the first record. I had seen that there was a fix in ver 10, but I'm not sure if this applies as well to the deletion of the last record. It is an embedded browse

    Also, maybe not related, but where I get an error's on checking field on the stock quantity thru the "can save" event logic, I lose the ability to enter new records or even delete the current one. Here's the code below, and maybe both problems are related:

    if tbl.Qty_IN_STO - v_quantity < 0 then
    msgbox("Quantity in StocK Cannot be Less Than Zero , Please Correct Qty or Delete Tool")
    cancel()
    tbl.close()
    end
    end if

    Thanks for the eyes...Ryland

    Re: Parent Table Restricted: Refetching Error

    If this is the whole of your script, you probably don't want

    tbl.close()

    but then again, it can't be the whole script or tbl.Qty_IN_STO would be meaningless because the tbl pointer has not been established. A normal script would start with

    tbl = table.current(#) 'some valid #, doesn't need/shouldn't be closed

    or tbl = table.open("sometablename")

    unless the tbl pointer is established somewhere else as shared or global (and v_quantity is established somewhere else as shared or global ).

    Better tell us what is really happening.
    There can be only one.

      Thanks Stan,

      I've been unable to trace it down other than when certain conditions hit (like stock not available or certain due dates do not match), the browse does some werid things on the delete and new record add.

      I commented out all of the code in the "can save" and "on save" events within the browse, and still get the same errors. The only thing I have not done is comment out the field rules to see if they are causing the browse 1st record delete problem.

      Will try that, and if that produces no results, will post the files to see if ya'll see anything funny looking (other than myself).

      Meanwhile here is the can save event code:

      dim tbl as p
      'Get 'Value' property of 'Browse1:Product_id' in Form 'Invoice_Issue' .

        Re: Parent Table Restricted: Refetching Error

        This is the "ON Save" Event code in the browse:

        'Open the table that you want to update...
        dim tbl as p
        tbl = table.open("invoice_items",FILE_RW_SHARED)
        dim target_record as n
        target_record = -1

        'Since target record number < 0, go to last record in table...
        Dim itbl as p
        itbl = tbl.index_primary_put("")
        tbl.fetch_last()

        if tbl.is_record_locked() = .t. then
        ui_msg_box("Error","Cannot edit record because it is locked by another user, or in another session.",UI_STOP_SYMBOL)
        tbl.close()
        end
        end if
        tbl.change_begin()
        tbl.CUSTOMER_ID = convert_type(v_personnel,"Character")
        tbl.TOOL_ISSUE_DATE = a5_eval_expression("=date()",local_variables())
        tbl.Tool_issue_time = time("0h:0m:0s")
        tbl.TOOL_EST_RETURN = a5_eval_expression("=date()",local_variables())
        'tbl.SCAN_ID = a5_eval_expression("=Customer->Scan_Id",local_variables())
        'tbl.UIC = a5_eval_expression("=Customer->Organization",local_variables())
        tbl.rec_type="I"
        tbl.change_end(.t.)
        tbl.close()

          Re: Parent Table Restricted: Refetching Error

          Stan and all....

          Believe it or not, the problem self corrected itself. In the "Can Save" Event, I had the Assign browse properties as a seperate action (action scripting) and a different action script for doing the actual assigning of the records. When I combined the two different action scripts on the "Can Save", the problems with the refetching of the records dissappeared.

          Lesson to learn....within 1 browse record event, only use in-line basic coding in one script....don't split them up.

          I hope I'm right with that.

          Thanks,

            Ryland,

            The message board will support formatted code. Your scripts will be much easier to understand with a bit of formatting. See this thread for how this can be easily achieved:

              Re: Parent Table Restricted: Refetching Error

              I'm glad you got things working. There is some "danger" to using converted action scripts without understanding the underlying xbasic.

              Code:
              tbl.close()
              tbl.refresh()
              There is no .refresh() method for a table pointer (tbl) and if there were it would be meaningless after the table pointer was closed.
              There can be only one.
