Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New Browse

I downloaded the patch with the new browse and my app went haywire.

Can someone tell me what is different in the new browse?

    Re: New Browse

Nothing official has been said regarding differences that I am aware of. But I do know most of the later fixes* were only done to the new browse. Selwyn has stated that bugs reported for the old browse will not be looked at or fixed...only bugs in the new browse will be fixed. So if you are not using the new browse, you are not seeing what is going to be the browse when the final patch** is given.

So if the new browse broke your application, I would for sure send in a bug report that illustrates the issues.

*some of the fixes have created new issues and broke earlier fixes
**some here on the messageboard do not think Selwyn will keep his word of having a last patch

      Re: New Browse

So if I understand you, there is no documentation on the differences in the new browse and the old browse.

I have scripts attached to events and properties in the old browse that work great. These scripts are not complex. I tried removing the scripts one at a time trying to debug the problem. I can't identify anything to report. The new browse stripped down with no event scripts or property scripts still does not work in my app. I am completely stumped.

I hate to say this, but try building a test browse from scratch and see if that works.

          Re: New Browse

The biggest thing in the new browse (default) is that you can't retain an index (when you close the browse the index returns to record-number order). could this be causing your problem?

Why would they make a change like that!

As far as I'm concerned Alpha Five is history!!!!

I doubt that it is a "change"; perhaps a bug. Don't know - haven't tested it myself.

Perhaps a little short sighted, eh?

The only way really is to know that you downloaded and installed the New Browse file.

                    David;

Did you try the download (both files) below. As far as I can tell these are the latest, and mayhaps the last for V9. One can only hazard a guess if V9 will have anything done for/to it after v10.

I noticed in my patches folder I had the new browse - but have no way of knowing whether I'm using it. If my client downloaded from the regular site, would he get the new browse or the old one?

PS: what do you do with the "aex" - paste it into both the full and runtime?

When I downloaded the patch it read as follows:
                        "a5v9_full_patch_newBrowse_2095_3264.exe"

I downloaded the two zip files and copied them to the a5 program directory. Same for the runtime. When I fire up A5 I get build 2329 with system adins 3348.

                              Re: New Browse

I just noticed when you go to the V9 update site, you cannot get into the release notes (which is where the new browse download was located). Evidently they have turned the v9 release notes off) or is there something I am missing.

Jim Miles - the build and the addin number that you posted is far beyond the the last update on the update site which is the one in March. Are the two urls that you posted for the dle and aex - are they private patches that have been given out for specific problems - it seem that the 3248 AEX addin is the same as the V10 beta addin.

I had downloaded the new browse awhile ago which still keeps me at the last patch version and addin.

                              Did I miss something
