Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Sub Report Filters Not Working Correctly

    Hi All,

Attached is a Alpha Sports dbase showing a red invoice button. Can anyone confirm the filter behaviour that I experience.

The button previews a report Invoice_2 with the subreport detail filters set as Quantity between 3 and 6 yet the subreport still shows other quantities. I have always used this filter method in the past especially when creating reports with multiple subreports.

Now this report is OK if opened in all older versions of Alpha and also older V9 builds. Now try this same sample in the latest V9 and V10 builds and you will see that the filter is not correct. I reported this as a bug but have been told that we should now create the filter at the top level.

Surely this cannot be of any use since all of my older applications have their filters set in the detail of the subreport using SCANNING("Invoice_items").AND.BETWEEN(Invoice_Items->Quantity,3,6), which sounds logical to me.

Can anyone back me up on this argument.

Surely we are not expected to change all of our older app filters to fit the New Builds!

    Michael,
I see the same. And agree that this should not be allowed to break applications.

I do remember other issues in the past that a fix was to add the sort order when a filter did not work consistently---so apparently whatever has been messing up has now affected subreports as well. At least the fix is easy as if that truly helps.

BTW--I apparently do not know what the "top" level is as adding a sort to the main report did nothing--had to add the sort to the child that the subreport was based on to fix the issue.

      Mike,

Thanks I am pleased that it is not only me that sees this behaviour, also I agree, I don't see how it is possible that filters at the top level can control filters in a subreport especially when using subreports. I have some reports in my apps that have up to 10 subreports each with their own detail filters and these work as expected in all older builds and versions.

Surely this is a very common scenario of Header Table with Due and Paid one to many child tables filtered on Due and Paid between filtered dates.

Which build are you using? I see this behaviour in V9 Build 2159 - 3267 (though, because of other build issues, I am still forced to use an earlier build dating back to October 2008)

        Hi Michael,
Using builds V9 Build 2237 - 3268 which is just beyond the regular latest build---using the New Browse version as well. If you are to report this as a bug then you will have to do so using the New Browse as Selwyn has stated the following when I had submitted bugs relating to Old Browse vs New Browse...May get ignored if you don't.
We are not fixing any bugs related to Browse in the Old Browse version, since that version will be going away.
So, I will only comment on your bug report as it pertains to the New Browse.
