Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Members, can you tell me what's going on:

I am using A5V9 Platinum Edition. When I click table view button, and select DEFAULT BROWSER, program stop running and I have to use system program manager to terminate A5V9. My OS is 64-bit Windows Vista.

    Thanks.

    Hi Xiao,

    Welcome to Alpha.

Does this happen to every table in every application or just to the one table?

Re: Access defualt browser and A5V9 stop running

      Hi, Keith

Thank you for your attention of my post. This happens for any table. The problem is that the default browser does not show any records in the table, at this point you can not close default browser window until I use system task manager to terminate the A5.
Later I found that I can use mouse to drag the left most bar, then it shows two identical browsers but still no records shown. After I conducting ascending or dsecending sort, the records show up and I can close the default browser. Please view two images attached with this message. Default form has no problem displaying record. No problems with new form or browser so far. I do not know if this is a glitch in the program. I started using A5 in 1993, then A5V5, 2 weeks ago I purchased A5V9 bundle.

I found that the note field if set to be displaying html, unless use charset=gb2313 to display Chinese or different charsets for other foreign characters, it will not correctly display foreign characters but "??????".

      Thanks again.

Re: Access defualt browser and A5V9 stop running

I just tried this in V8 and get a similar result. I don't know what that's all about. I'm also using 64 bit Vista, SP2.

If you just double click on the table name, it comes up in the default browse with all your data.

Re: Access defualt browser and A5V9 stop running

Is this a beta version? This issue is not critical for running A5V9, but I do not feel comfortable about this software when I develop client applications if I find something abnormal.

Is what a beta version? No betas in V8 or v9 at this point.

I think this is a bug unless there's something in the documentation that explains this behavior or someone enlightens us as to what we're doing wrong. why don't you submit it as a bug and report the results when you get them.

                ?????

When I choose the main menu in Alpha-->Help-->Send a Bug Report, it brings up a screen explaining how to send the report including how to zip you your database(sample) that you can attach to the bug report(email)....How are you attempting to send a bug report that does not offer this??

                  Hi, MikeC

Thank you for reminding me the way to report bug. First I installed the latest patch builder 2095_3264 in the hope of this problem has been fixed, but it is not. It is not a critical issue and as Robert mentioned that we can access default browser by double clicking the table, but I think that better let Alpha Software aware of this issue and I will submit a bug report in the way it should be. Thanks again!

Re: Access defualt browser and A5V9 stop running

The issue does not manifest itself in v8 or v9 here....I have XP Pro SP2.

It sounds like a 64 bit Vista conflict with Alpha so make sure you mention this in your bug report...I would also mention what you have tried to remedy the issue as well (and if compatibility mode has been tried).

Re: Access defualt browser and A5V9 stop running

Note that if you go to view\default form, it works to show the first record in the table. So this is clearly showing a problem with default browse.

In addition, if you select a table, right click and select default browse, it gives the same problem. You have to do a cold boot to shut down Alpha.

I have also run across the problem. Purchased a new PC with Vista home premium (64 bit) and loaded the program with the new browse and when I switch to the browse mode from form mode I can not get back to form mode.

Has there been a solution to the problem?
