Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Greek Characters Problem

    Hello,
I bought Alpha Five v.9.00 2 weeks ago and I really like what I saw so far.

Nevertheless, I am in Greece and I have the following problem with Greek characters:

In the field rules dialog when I try to enter Greek characters in "Default Descriptive name" and "Field Description" fields, they come out like English characters with tones instead of the Greek characters. In the browse window they come out ok, because I have set the font to "Arial Greek"

Is there any way I can change the font (actually the font's script to Greek) in the system fields of Alpha Five so I can see the Greek characters correctly?

I will attach the 2 images that show the problem, in the first are the wrong characters:

In the second, in the first field's title there are the correct Greek characters.

We are a software house and we really like to develop some software and even promote the Alpha Five in the Greek market, but we have to overcome the problems with the Greek characters first.

Thank you very much for your help.

I have also find an older version of Alpha Five (version 4.5) from a magazine offer and I have tried to set the descriptive name and field description in Greek.

As you can see in the following picture, the 4.5 version works correctly with the Greek characters:

        I hope that helps.

            George:
You can try to contact Selwyn Rabins or someone else at Alpha. Go to members list, under the name it says alpha software employee. You can send a private message from there.

                Re: Greek Characters Problem

I have inform Alpha Five employees from the members list about the problem with the Greek characters but so far I have no response.

I downloaded v.8.0 and the Greek characters work just fine, so, I suppose it wouldn't be much truble to correct the problem in v.9.0.

                Unfortunetly, from 2 other post:
                http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=78652
                and
                http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...896#post479896
from another member in the forum, it seems that problems with Greek characters go unanswerd.

Can anyone provide some help or direct me to the appropriate person?

                Thanks

                  Re: Greek Characters Problem

"Hello George. Right now Alpha only supports English language sets. Thank you for your patience."

The above is the reply I receive from Alpha Five. From what I can understand, Alpha Five doesn't support Greek no any other foreign language except English.

As we can't use the programm in our language, the only thing we can do is to ask Alpha Five to refund our money and cancel our purchase.

Pitty because I really liked Alpha Five and I would like to use it in our software development company. I have even plan to develop an important in-house project in Alpha Five.

I hope this post will save other foreign language programmers from the trouble to first purchase Alpha Five and then learn that they cannot use Alpha Five with Greek or other foreing language.

Best luck to all and thank you for your help.
