Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: create individual reports for users

    ok, i now want to expand to saving the report to the sales persons personnel file.

    this is what i have so far

    Code:
    'Date Created: 02-Mar-2011 09:51:31 PM
    'Last Updated: 02-Mar-2011 09:54:41 PM
    'Created By  : richard harris
    'Updated By  : richard harris
    'create a report for each adviser, save to file and email

    dim vdoc as c
    dim varEmpFile as c

    lst = table.external_record_content_get("tcommmngr","alltrim(adviser)","adviser",".t. .and. unique_key_value()")
    for each foo in lst

    filter1 = "tcommmngr->adviser = " + quote(foo.value)
    filter2 = "Tprods->Prod_Commrec=.T..AND.Adv_Paid=.t. .and. adv_paid_date = date()"
    varEmpFile = alltrim(tstaff->emp_file_location)

    current_filter = "("+filter1 +") .and. ("+filter2 +")"
    current_order = current_order_expn()
    query.filter = current_filter
    query.order =  current_order

    if A5_GET_RECORDS_IN_QUERY("tcommstat.set",current_filter) > 0

    :Report.preview("Comm_Statement",query.filter,query.order)

    vdoc=varEmpFile+"\\"+"Commission Statement"+" "+dtoc(date(),"1-")+".pdf"
    :Report.SaveAs("comm_statement","PDF",query.filter,query.order,vdoc,.F.)

    else
    'do nothing
    end if

    next
    the reports generate individually, great, each report saves to file, however the location of the file is not changing with each adviser, so all reports are saving to the same advisers file.

    i thought as the adviser is filtered for each report, so the field value of emp_file_location would also be filtered.

      Re: create individual reports for users

      I think you'll have to do something like

      Code:
      varEmpFile = lookup("tstaff","adviser = "+quote(foo.value),"alltrim(emp_file_location)")
      assuming you have the adviser field in tstaff.

      i thought as the adviser is filtered for each report, so the field value of emp_file_location would also be filtered.
      The report filtering happens in a separate "session" and doesn't affect what is happening with the script.
      There can be only one.

        Re: create individual reports for users

        genius... this is great, thanks for all your help stan

        i now have the script, preview the report (which i actually now don't need so will delete this part), save the filtered commission statement to the correct employees personnel file, and then silently email the report to each employee.

        along with some other improvements i made to my app, this has cut the time in completing this job each week from approx 2 hours to 5 minutes.

        i can see other applications in my program for the foo. so i learnt something really useful.

        i know this needs error checking but here is the code if it helps anyone else (i am going to expand to produce a summary report for payroll).

        Code:
        dim vdoc as c
        dim varEmpFile as c
        dim varEmpemail as c

        lst = table.external_record_content_get("tcommmngr","alltrim(adviser)","adviser",".t. .and. unique_key_value()")
        for each foo in lst

        filter1 = "tcommmngr->adviser = " + quote(foo.value)
        filter2 = "Tprods->Prod_Commrec=.T..AND.Adv_Paid=.t. .and. adv_paid_date = date()"
        varEmpFile = lookup("tstaff","employeename = "+quote(foo.value),"alltrim(emp_file_location)")
        varEmpemail = lookup("tstaff","employeename = "+quote(foo.value),"alltrim(employeeemail)")

        current_filter = "("+filter1 +") .and. ("+filter2 +")"
        current_order = current_order_expn()
        query.filter = current_filter
        query.order =  current_order

        if A5_GET_RECORDS_IN_QUERY("tcommstat.set",current_filter) > 0

        :Report.preview("Comm_Statement",query.filter,query.order)

        vdoc=varEmpFile+"\\"+"Commission Statement"+" "+dtoc(date(),"1-")+".pdf"

        :Report.SaveAs("comm_statement","PDF",query.filter,query.order,vdoc,.F.)

        'email comm statement
        to_param = a5_eval_expression(varEmpemail)
        cc_param = a5_eval_expression("",local_variables())
        bcc_param = a5_eval_expression("",local_variables())
        subject_param = a5_eval_expression("=\"Your commission statement is attached\"",local_variables())
        message_param = a5_eval_expression("=\"Please find attached your commission statement for this week, your statements are also stored in your personnel file and can be accessed via the 'My Profile' page in Mortgage Manager.\"",local_variables())

        email_send(to_param,subject_param,message_param,vdoc,cc_param,bcc_param)

        	else
        'do nothing
        end if

          And if you found and corrected an error and wanted to reprint/send just one report?
