Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Oaisys Software Conflict

I have recently installed Alpha Five developer version on my workstation. Since the installation my OAISYS call recording and voice documentation software will no longer work. At first I thought it was coincidental but like a true engineer I then took my second lab workstation and performed the same installation and yes Oaisys stopped working on it too. One workstation is Vista with all the latest patches and the other is XP Pro with all the latest patches.

I have tried to unistall Alpha Five from both workstations but Oaisys will still not work. I tried to unistall Oaisys and then reinstall it but that still did not work. I suspect that there must be some shared files between Oaisys and Alpha Five that must be causing a conflict.

Has anyone experienced a problem with Oaisys or a conflict with another software package in general?

    Thank you,

    CP Good

    Hi,

When you uninstalled Alpha, do you also delete all references in the Registry?

I would try reinstalling Oaisys again to see it that remedies the issue (or causes Alpha to not run)....no other thoughts really except to try and find the conflicting .dll.

No sir, no manual changes to the registry have been made. Is there a help document that walks a user through this? Outside of all the usual precautions of backing up the registry first it would be good to know what all to look for.

        Thank you,

Does "no longer work" mean it doesn't start up or something else?

Which version of a5 do you have?

There may be a problem with file associations. I would check it out.

An attempt has been made to reinstall on both workstations. The reinstallation has failed.

When an attempt is made to reinstall the Oaisys software the installer dies. It will not complete.

                  Re: Oaisys Software Conflict

Something has to be common about the two programs.

You didn't say if you went to the Control Panel and made sure there were no file association problems.

To make sure Alpha is completely removed, do a find on Alpha in the registry and delete everything related to Alpha software. I liked the old registry search where you could have it pull up everything that you searched on at one time. Also use the Windows disk cleanup tool to remove temporary files and empty the recycle bin.

I'm wondering if there isn't a .dll conflict. Some years ago, at work, when we installed AutoCad, it affected some other programs. It turned out that AutoCad was replacing one of the system .dll files with one of it's own. What we did was make a copy of the system .dll and then installed AutoCad. Once installed, we replaced that .dll file with the system file. Alpha has the MSVCRT.dll which is a different date than the system file which is msvcrt.dll but it doesn't replace the system .dll. I seem to remember it was a ms....32.dll file but it was too long ago for me to remember now.

There are some programs on the web like PC Doctor that claim they can fix .dll files.

As I also mentioned in a prior post....CP has not said if he/she has checked this aspect out yet and more speculation, by me at least, has been withheld until then as it is the most likely suspect IMO. I too have had more than one piece of software not function due to this obvious issue.....thing is....not so easy to cure sometimes even if found.
