Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email draft problem

I created an email draft/template to use when sending emails. A5 displays portion of the text. Please see attachment. Open MembersForm.

    Gaby,

I opened the form and tried to follow your instructions. While in the control panel, I selected Tools on the menu bar and then Email. I have 2 choices; Send or Read. Obviously, I'm missing something. Is there supposed to be a menu bar on your form? I don't understand where you created the email template.

      Hi Ken:
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my sample.
It's not from the CP. It's from the MembresForm. While on the MembersForm, from the Menu --> Tools --> Email, etc...

After email, I get the email template with my email address in it. There are no Open draft icon or anything else. It is the standard Outlet email template.

            Kenn:
Once you get the A5 emailer with nothing in the body, from the tool bar, there is an icon next to the Save icon (looks like an open folder), this is the Open Draft icon, click on it then click ok (A5 Library is selected by default), then in choices there is only 1 template "geneannoucement", select it and preview it.

OK, I finally got there. The only text I see is some of the code for the template. I take it that is not what is intended. What is your question?

Really appreciate the time you are taking to help me.
Here is the issue: I have a lookup function that looks up the formatted text (made up of 4 paragraphs stored in the announcement table (there is only 1 record, open the announcement form and you'll see it). The lookup expression is in the body of the email. Click on Preview (bottom of the email window) an you'll see that the announcement text is truncated (only the 1st 2 paragraphs appear), the rest is swallowed by the function. A5 does not display the entire text.

                  Gabe,

Have you seen the notice when you load Alpha the first time each day.

HTML Editor Broken After Applying Microsoft Update

If you are running on XP, a recent Microsoft security update has broken the DHTML ActiveX control which is used in the Alpha Five HTML editor.

You should roll back the Microsoft update until Alpha can investigate this further.

The problem will manifest itself when you switch to the Source tab in the Editor. You will see extra characters in the source view that should not be present.

Here is the link to the Microsoft Update: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS09-046.mspx

You must roll back KB956844. To do this, go to Windows Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs. Make sure the "Show Updates" check box is checked. Search for KB956844 and uninstall the update.
I think that may be the cause of the problem you are having.

                    Hi Cliff:
I have the microsoft update turned off since I bought the machine (1 year ago). I checked for this KB956844, I don't have it in my installed updates.
How does my template shows on your system? Does it show the entire text?

                      Gaby,

No, it breaks off after the word "access" in the second paragraph. If I edit the sample (like changing font color and size) it then cuts off in the first paragraph.

I do have KB956844 on my system, so thought that may be your problem.

My system is an XP w/SP3, using Alpha V9 w/new browse.

                          Re: Email draft problem

Thanks guys for confirming. My guess is that the lookup function can look up a limited amount of text. An alpha expert can hopefully shed some light on this and suggest how I can display the entire text in the body of the email. Probably there is a function that can bring over larger amount of text and I am not aware of.

I have an email template problem where it brings up the code along with the text. I don't know if it's something I've done or a bug. Since it isn't a priority for me, I have not looked into it and hopefully v10 will be out soon.

FWIW...you can copy "sometext" from the HTML editor and paste into email and "sometext" displays complete with all formating. I know that's not helpful for what you want to do, but may help in troubleshooting.
