Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Tabs display/selection based on a field value

Is it possible to display different tabs based on a field value?

Lets say I have a customer form with a 3 tab object.
every customer has 1 of 3 descriptions in a field called C_class.
The tab object has 3 tabs. ( class 1 to class 3) with different fields and data within each tab.

If customer 6 is a class2 (one of the choices in the c_class field), I would like to display the tab 2 without selecting tab2)

If customer 8 is a class3, I would like to display the tab 3.

So As I move from record to record the tabs matches the c_class field value.

Tab 1 is always displayed when you open the form.

    Is it possible?

Re: Tabs display/selection based on a field value

    Mike,

Things happen in Alpha in response to events.

If customer 6 is a class2 I would like to display the tab 2 without selecting tab2
Sounds like you need to code an event for the form containing the tabbed object. You want to do this when the form is first displayed (oninit) or each time the form is brought to the front (onactivate).

The command to set the visible tab is

    tabbed_object_objectname.TAB_SET(Page_Number as N)

So you could have the oninit code

    tabbed_object_objectname.TAB_SET(val(alltrim(str(C_class.value))))

Possibly the onfetch event might be more suitable.
    There can be only one.

I have not being able to display the tabs. The syntax for the script in "onfetch" is incorrect.
      Perhaps a correction will help.
      Thanks.

Re: Tabs display/selection based on a field value

        Code:
        tabbed1.TAB_SET(val(right(alltrim(C_class.value),1)))
tabbed_object_objectname <- your tabbed object objectname is tabbed1

C_class.value <-- your c_class object holds values Class1 and Class2 so you have to drill down to the last character in the value and get its numeric equivalent
        There can be only one.

Re: Tabs display/selection based on a field value

Not wanting to take away from your tabs, but it is easier with conditional objects which are like tabs. a change of a variable or a field shows the conditional object you want.

If customer 6 is a class2 (one of the choices in the c_class field), I would like to display the tab 2 without selecting tab2)

If customer 8 is a class3, I would like to display the tab 3.
customer 6 being class2 would bring up the appropriate conditional object.

The big advantage is the need for less coding.

            Stan, Thanks it work perfectly.
I agree with Dave, but in this case I had a few other reasons I had to use the tabs.
Thanks to all for their responses.

              Mike,

Tabs are nothing more than conditional objectswith built in buttons.

Like this form with buttons resembling tabs.

Excellent tip. Buttons may have more features that tabs. I will experiment with it.
                Thanks
