Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Genie not showing under Events in Browse

In V9, I created a brwose over a table, when I choose event, I go straight to the code Editor, even though from there I can choose teh object then Select Event, the option say onDblClick it shows the option of either Using Genie or XBasic, but choosing Genie just dumps me into the code editor, where and how can I get the Genie to work ? I remembered in V5 I did it and it works or am I missing something ?

View - settings - preference - new script

has two setting below it - one which you said was set to action scripting already and then there is a second setting Prompt for method - if you want the genie that asks whether you want action scripting or xbasic to come up you would put yes in the preference.

          Hi Tom
I tried it and still I just get Code Editor, I even changed them, exit A5 then back in again, same, as if Action Script doesnt exist.

When you get to the code editor - in the top menu there is an item "Code". If you click that while your are in the code editor it will show a dropdown with the first item "Switch to Action Scripting" See thumbnail

            Does that work?

              Hi Tom
Sorry for delay, yes it did the trick, many thanks for that.
Are teher any clues to why it doesnt show up by default ? I tested it on a spare machine, clean XP SP3/IE7 in case some components were missing, installed A5v9, and it did the same thing.
I am using v9 Build 2095 and system Build 3264, downloaded and applied the latest update .
              Thanks again for the help.

                Lee

I tried everything I could think of to stop the genie from coming up - even checking the box that says don't ask in the future. But then going into settings - system - preferences - new script and changing the default to Xbasic (or Action Scripting) then changing the prompt for method and entering either yes (to prompt) or no (no prompt). It would work exactly as I had shown in the preferences.

Selected no for no prompt would take me directly to either the code editor or the action script editor (whichever I choose in the default). If I selected yes for prompting, it would ask whether I wanted to enter the script in Action Scripting or XBasic, with the radio button checked for whatever I showed as the default editor.

So the only thing I could say is to reload Version 9 to another directory other than that one you are working with and then download the current patch build 2095 addins 3264 and see if it clears it up but you already did that on the new machine and it still was not working.

Question would be are you using an A5V9 disk that was sent by Alpha or did you download from Alpha when you first purchased V9. If you downloaded the program then something might have happened to the download since you downloaded it. If you have the disk and you are using that then I am at a loss why it is happening.

Sorry I could not be of more help.
