Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing in 64 bit Vista

I have a problem with an app running in 64bit Vista. The problem is the top margin when printing labels. On my 32 bit Vista computers I can change the margin and you can see the change in the print preview, but you cannot see it on the 64 bit computer.

I see there is an update in A5V10 to the AMYUNI printer driver for 64 bit, and I suspect this is the problem.

I found a message that suggested some changes to the AMYUNI driver for 64 bit to allow A5 to print to a PDF file, and that solved that problem, but not this label problem.

My customer wants her money back! Anybody know how to fix this?

    TIA
    Bill

Bill, unless you're dumping the labels to pdf and then trying to print the pdf the Amyuni drivers may not be the most likely source of the difficulty. Have you verified that her printer drivers are compatible with her operating system, and have the most recent printer drivers been installed? Is she printing to the "default" printer, and if so does Alpha know which printer is the "default"? Can she print labels with other applications?

      Tom,

You are right, as usual, about the Amyuni printer driver, and I will check on the version of the printer driver.

BUT, that said, I still do not understand why when I change the top/bottom margins in the A5 label size properties it doesn't show on the print preview screen on the 64 bit computer, but does show on 32 bit?

Re: Printing in 64 bit Vista

Bill, I'm thinking that Alpha gets information from the operating system in order to construct the preview. If the operating system can't supply correct information to Alpha because the print drivers are incompatible or out of date then Alpha is stuck.

Well according to Vista, the printer driver is the most up to date driver available. The printer is almost 2 years old, and the computer is 2 months old... The printer was the DEFAULT.

No margin at the top of the print preview window... BUT, now when I save to PDF, the PDF DOES have a margin, and when I print from the PDF, it prints ok... Not a perfect solution because it adds a step,(save to PDF), but a workable solution none the less.

I think I'm off the hook for now. I still would like to have a better solution, but until I can afford a 64bit computer, it will have to do.

          Thanks for your help,
          Bill

Just out of curiosity, are you talking about the page margin on which the labels are shown or are you talking about a margin on the actual label (margin from top of text to top of label)?

Re: Printing in 64 bit Vista

Bill, your customer (or you) should check the printer manufacturer's web site for a more recent set of drivers for 64 bit Vista. Accepting what Vista says is not always reliable on this kind of thing.

                  Robert,
I'm refering to the page margin as shown in the print preview. When I change the top/bottom margin in the label size screen, the change shows on the print preview screen on my 32 bit computers, but it seems to be ignored on the 64 bit laptop.

Re: Printing in 64 bit Vista

Thank you. I was worried because I couldn't figure out how to change the margins of the actual label.

                    I'm using 64 bit Vista.

I see what you mean. If you go to label properties\page- you can change the margins and they are reflected in the preview.

If you go to label size and change the page margins, nothing happens in regards to the page preview. Changing the margins in label size or label properties don't seem to have any affect on each other. What I mean is that if you set the page margins in label properties and then go to label size, the page margins are not shown properly in label size. Likewise, if you change them in label size, they're not changed in label properties. I'm using V8. Maybe this is a bug.

I would set the page margins in label properties and forget about it in label size.
