Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Labels

Now I am really confused about the between() function.

I use it to select records to print on labels, and when I had a few records I thought it was working ok. Now that there are a few more it isn't doing what I want.

For example, run the label 'lbl_8160', and it will ask for a starting product number, and an ending product number, like put in 09-22 and 09-32.

It prints those, and a page and a half more ???

So how can I get it to print ONLY the products requested. I know I have something wrong, but cannot figure out how to fix it.

If I ask for 09-99 to 09-101 NOTHING shows, but 09-100 to 09-101 does???
    TIA

    Re: Labels

I think the 09-99 to 09-101 fails because in numerical sorting, the first digit in 99 (a 9) is larger than the 1 in 101. Therefore, 09-99 is greater than and not equal to 09-101 and is not in accordance with the requirements of between(). That's why you use the 0 in front of the first digit. It could depend on how you have your table indexed.
Maybe I'm all wet and someone will correct me.

Can't figure out why you would get more pages than you're supposed to.

      Re: Labels

Robert is correct about the 09-099 instead of 09-99 because your field is character. Character fields are handled different than numeric fields. If your field were numeric, it would count correctly, BUT: 09-99 would end up a math promlem and 09-102 would come up less than 09-99.

Thought in table design would come in handy here. I guess 09 = the year and 099 is a record number of sorts?

would it be easier if 09 were a character field and the 99/102 were numeric? like

      Code:
yearfield = "09" .and. between(No,:Begin_no,:end_no) 'where you would enter the numeric 99 and 102
Yes, I know there are 2 fields now instead of 1. Alpha packs 0's to the right of character fields and to the left of numeric fields. At least I am told.

        Re: Labels

I didn't download your sample tonight to see what other selections might be in "those, and a page and a half more " but I think what everyone is trying to say is that in sorting a numeric field will sort as you are accustomed to seeing increasing values. A character field sorts left to right.

So a proper ascending sequence might be

        99-00
        99-01
        99-011
        99-0111111111
        99-02
        99-021
        99-022999999
        99-03
        99-030
        99-031
        99-04
        99-10
        99-20
        99-201
        99-22
        99-220
        99-23
        99-24
        99-241
        99-25
        99-32

and it will ask for a starting product number, and an ending product number, like put in 09-22 and 09-32
So there are a bunch of possibilities between -22 and -32, not just the 11 you possibly imagined.
        There can be only one.
